I'm watching A New Hope as I write this entry. The scene taking place in Ben Kenobi's hut just ended. It occurred to me that Ben, our hero also known as Obi-wan, must have known exactly who the lass in distress appearing in the holographic message was. How could he not? Her missive to Ben to see R2D2 to Alderaan would have been clue enough to reveal her identity to the Jedi. Ben knew to whom Anakin's and Padme's baby girl had been entrusted. Okay, the mystery girl didn't say, "My father of the Royal House of Alderaan," but Ben most assuredly knew who she meant when she asked him to see R2 safely to her home world. Besides, even from the remote Outer Rim, Ben must have been keeping tabs on Luke's twin sister.

I love to watch Sir Alec's subtle expressions, movements as he portrays the older Kenobi. What an excellent actor he was! He slowly leans back, raises his hand to slowly stroke his beard, and the wheels are going behind that deeply pensive look on his face. Incredible. Events are forcing Ben's hand, but it was only a matter of time before Luke would have to learn his true identity, and learn he had a sister - a twin sister at that!

Of course, this is just speculation on my part. I just love considering the meanings behind nuances in the six films.

And how's this for another speculation - I wonder what Chewbacca was thinking when he met Obi-wan in the Mos Eisley cantina? It's never clear, at least from the movies, whether the two ever meet before A New Hope, but Chewbacca does have a close relationship with the top Jedi of them all. I wonder if, during conversations with Yoda, Obi-wan's name ever came up in conversation. At the very least, Chewbacca knows Ben is a Jedi once he pulls out his lightsaber in defense of Luke. I wonder if Chewie relates any of his connection to the Jedi to his trusted friend after ambling over to Han's table. Watch Chewie during the conversation between Ben, Luke and Han. I wonder what's going on behind his piercing blue eyes.

Oh no! Han, Chewie, Leia and Luke are about to be crushed into thin pancakes! Luke tries in vein to reach C3PO. Oh no! What's to become of our heroes???
