the force ghost?
ok- everybody is asking (not directly, maby by just saying why or how....) how vader was a force ghost. read the databank once and a while!

He looked upon his son for the first and last time; then, he died.
Through compassion and selflessness, Anakin discovered the secret knowledge of the Shaman of the Whills, a technique that allowed him to retain his identity in the netherworld of the Force. - databank; Skywalker, Anakin; 2nd to last paragraph.

see? :p

Wow so the Shamen of the Whills are canon now? That's news to me! After I check out the databank entry and some related ones I'll definatly have something to say about that in my blog!

Thats a lame bit of retconning if I ever saw one. Somebody has actually been paid to tie up the Whills, first mentioned in 1977, and thats all we get?

Oh, and why don't you go to English class, once IN a while.

Just kidding, I'm not flaming you really. My bad.

Interesting how there's no databank entry for Whills or Shaman of the Whills, none that I can see anyway.

Well there have been theories that the so-called "Yoda species" are the Whills, but as far as I know nobody has confirmed or debunked those theories.

I wish I could locate the article, or perhaps it was a blog, that states how Qui-Gon met this so called "shaman" and how he was taught that particular secret. I do not know for a fact if it is the true version of the story or just someone's opinion, because I know the books refer to Qui-Gon as having achieved that ability after death. Personally, I'm not sure, but I feel fairly certain that Yoda's species is not related to the Whills, as they are more like Spirits or Gods rather than creatures. A shaman is defined as a medium through which the God's, or whatever you wish to call them, communicate, or are communicated with. So I believe that the shaman are just mediators between living beings and Whills. You get the idea.

Great blog!!! I wholeheartedly agree that people who write their blogs before reading the databank should get their heads out of their @$$es and read the damn databank!!! I just responded on a blog about the Anakin/Vader/Force ghost issue, a blog that didn't need posting if the #$%^& blogger checked out the databank and read it!!!!! That and to all those morons and idiots who think Vader died because of his helmet being removed and not because "Vader was bombarded by the Emperor's Force lightning, mortally wounding him." (databank of Vader) should check into rehab, because they're all on CRACK!!!!! So to those same people, READ THE DATABANKS BEFORE SHOVING YOUR HEADS UP YOUR OWN @$$ES!!!!!!!!

I can't stress this enough, but to hailfire551, GREAT BLOG!!!!! No thanks to the simpering cretins, peons, and brain-dead numbskulls writing redundant blogs asking questions whose answers are already in the databank (as well as in plain view in the movies), finding an intelligent insightful blog has become as difficult as finding the needle in the proverbial haystack!!!!! Forgive my visciousness, but I'm so goddam FRUSTRATED and HEADACHE-RIDDEN with all these afore mentioned PATHETIC blogs that I feel compelled to vent for once. So to reiterate the oh-so-insightful message of this blog (and the justice therein), before blogging, READ THE DATABANK!!!!!!!!!!

Darth Gehena - there's no need to attack so fiercely. The databank isn't as accurate as you make it out to be. Shaak Ti's entry is incomplete, Finis Valorum's is incomplete, same for Quinlan Vos, Agen Kolar...even Qui-Gon Jinn's own databank entry makes no mention of the Shaman of the Whills.

I understand your passion for the databank, my passion is comics - and I use the databank myself, but there's no use flaming people and being angry and calling bloggers cretins and numbskulls. There's no rules that say people should use the databank.

Live with it.

Rogueish, you're right. There is no use at all to being, as you put it, "flaming and angry." I suppose it was a moment of weakness on my part. Also, I'm not saying people should read the databank word for word and accept it as written in stone, I'm simply asking for people to consult it first before putting up their questions. For months, I've seen bloggers ask questions where the answer was simply in the databank, like "what killed Vader?" The irritation and frustration built up to where, in a moment of weakness, I couldn't take it anymore.

I thought it was part of the Jedi code to BE selfless and compassionate; that's like the whole Jedi deal, man. So shouldn't all Jedi retain their identity?

Bonz Monzvert, very interesting point. Anakin did say in Ep. 2 that compassion was central to a Jedi's life. Compassion is in fact the key to the secret to the Shaman of the Whills. I also think that training with this technique is also necessary. Maverick that he was, Qui-gon Jinn must have trained to a limited degree with the technique. Being that he must have met several alien species that the Jedi would otherwise not know about (like the Whills, perhaps) and that his compassion was demonstrated through helping the likes of Jar Jar Binks and young Anakin Skywalker, the stage was set for Qui-gon to be the first Jedi Force ghost.

Well, the first Jedi Force Ghost in a long, long time anyway (see this blog entry for an explanation of other ghosts. But I know what you mean.

Oh, and kudos for your "moment of weakness" explanation. It's all good, man.

I can't remember where I read this (it was a few years ago) , but the article stated that Yoda's species were called Whil's (one "L") and they were the librarians or knowledge keepers of the universe.
