Problems with Prequels
We've waited a long time for prequels, a long time. Yet they lacked in so many areas for me as a fan of STAR WARS and a fan of film. I believe Episodes I, II, and III can be summed up in an Original Trilogy quote, "What an incredible smell you've discovered!"

Episode I, the first in a new trilogy, is meant to introduce you to characters they plan on you following through the trilogy. Well in the OT George Lucas hired mostly unknown faces, which I believe betters most films, because if they have the acting skill and are trying to make a name for themselves in the industry they will work harder on their performance. Where as with the PT he hired a whole gob of known faces, who can act, but were trying too hard because of the legend that is STAR WARS.

Episode II, now that you know most everyone, it's time to try and build the audience up for the finale, but GL went and got all CG crazy. I find that while CG can be amazing theres just a certain feel of reality that comes from man made props and models. Then of course he tried to focus on the love story... Well, I seem to remember a love building between Han and Leia that you just knew they were meant to be together, but somehow it worked with out cheesy, crappy, romance dialog you could find in any cheaply made novel. It wasn't personal, it wasn't passionate, it was fake.

Episode III, the finale. GL just tried too hard to cram too many things, as well as CG, into one film. Just like the love story, I didn't feel that Anakin's fall to the darkside was real enough, outside of his angry face and screaming during the end battle, it wasn't passionate, it was as though he were just a whiny, little, undisciplined, child. Which compares no where near what Vader was before the PT. He was an organized, strategic, Pissed off Cyber-Samurai with a lazer sword... Dark, Mysterious, and Troubled, yet the prequels lead you to believe the he and Obi-Wan got in a school yard struggle over who owns the Metallic Marble. As far as Episode III goes, I did find one of my favorite online films because of it. It is almost dead on what I'm talking about. You can find it listed as "helmet chafe" in the Sith Happens section on the site www.heavy.com, or you can visit the creators site at www.imitationmilk.com.

I must now go and ponder the several other facets of what I liked and disliked in the PT.
