Something has always bugged us about Palps actions in ROTS. Notedly when he travels to Mustafar to find Vader. Upon finding his apprentice on the banks of the lava river he dispatches his guards for a medical sled then kneels next to Vader as a father would his dying son. Why show such loving care if you are the most evil of evil men in the galaxy? Hear is our thought.
Palps is a very powerful Sith Lord who followed the creed of the Sith by destroying his Master to be top dog. When he recruited Maul as a child, Palps mearly used him as a weapon. But it is evident that Palps wants the ultimate apprentice, be it the Sith created Anakin theory or what have you. Maul had the combative skills but not the Force power Palps wanted. Dooku, though he was more skilled than Maul, also not what Palps was looking for. Anakin, however, was the most powerful Force sensitive in the galaxy and a good combatant to boot. He merely didn't have the control over the Force that Palps had...yet. We figure that Palps knew that if given time Vader would learn control and be far too powerful for Palps to control( he Force Choked someone over a viewing moniter, and that was withen the armor. Imagine what he could have done if he were a whole man) and Palps was afraid of losing his power. He said it himself,
"All who have power fear to lose it". when Vader was mortally wounded, Palps knew that Vaders grip of the Force was diminished. He thought that his power was safe. But he also wanted Vader by his side as an Apprentice so he would show caring during Vaders most trying moment. Plus to tell Vader that he killed his wife pretty much pushed Vader to his side eternaly. Vader had nothing left to live for other than serve Palps.
"You don't know the power of the Dark Side, I must serve my Master" Palps didn't care that Vader was on the brink of Death, he had his Galaxy. Palps was joyful that Vader would not be able to challange his seat of power.
These are our thoughts at least. Agree, disagree...Agree to disagree, what is your take?
"May the Force be with me, myself, and I"
