 | Did Anakin sike himself out? |
As we were watching ROTS the other day a thought come to us. Now, there has been some discussion as to Anakins visions of Padme dying during childbirth. Did he have the power to see the future (or at least a possible one), did Palpatine plant the visions into Anakins mind? We believe that Anakin siked himself out. You hear of people believing something to be true because they fear it to be true. An example is someone becoming sick because they believe it to be so. Let us explain.
First, we do believe that Anakin did have the ability to see the future, as witnessed in AOTC with his mother, as well as the somewhat accurate vision of becoming a Jedi when he was a kid. He knows he has glimpses of the future so when he learns of Padme being pregnant his sub-conscious creates a dream of her dying, which he takes as a vision and thus starts down a path which ironically leads to her death.
As for Palpatine planting the vision, we don't buy it. Here's why. Anakin didn't start having the visions/dreams until the night he found out. IF Palps knew that Padme was pregnant before Anakin why didn't he plant the visions before? So you say that Palpatine knew and did the whole planting thing because he started talking about the Sith knowing how to stop death. Let us explain.
He could have figured it out before his talk with Anakin. A lot of time passed between his return to Corusaunt and the opera; she was starting to show. Knowing Anakins fear of his friends dying around him, Palpatine used that as fuel to start Anakin down the path of the Dark Side. This works wether or not he knew Padme was with child or not. They were really close, Anakin always confiding in Palps. The old man was very manipulative and could easily gather, with the info he had on Anakin, what he needed to pull Anakin down the dark hole. Padme being pregnate was a lucky break so to speak. An available tool.
As for the later visions with Obi-Wan there, Anakin started to distrust the Jedi and thus his sub-conscious makes a dream of Obi-Wan there instead of him.
These are mearly our thoughts as to Anakins visions/dreams or what have you. Your comments are welcome.
