Let's Talk About Heroes
The other day, Ryan Kauffmam brought up an interesting discussion that inspired this entry.

With all the different types of heroes in the Star Wars universe, what kind of hero is your favorite and who is it?

Some of the different types:
The hero we connect with; and ,as the discussion on Ryan's blog points out, Luke is a great example of that. The heroes that remind us a little of ourselves as they are starting out.

The hero we aspire to be; again, in the comments section we pinpoint Obi-Wan and Han are pretty much these types. These are people who you typically don't see establishing themselves as heroes when you "meet" them, and everyone around them appreciates having them... at least at some point.

The dark hero. He gets the job done, just not in the way others would or others like.

The anti-hero. Somewhere along the lines these guys completely lost it and now look more like a villian, but we still root for them.

For me, I'm a big fan of Obi-Wan. He has a good idea of what he's doing and how to do it. You never see him question himself, at least not in the movies (i haven't read any of the books yet), he just sees what needs to be done and trys to choose the most tactful way of doing it. It may not always work out according to plan (Genosis?), but he manages to get the job done (even if it means friends coming in to help out).

I think of the Star Wars movies Obi-wan would be my hero. You never hear him say anything negitive. He is a very positive person. And always sticks up for the little guy and tries to helps those in need. And he is a great with a lightsaber and very knowledgeable in the force. And he is willing to take on any evil so that good will prevail. I would choose
Obi-wan as my star wars hero.

Qui-Gon and Yoda are my heroes, but in many ways I'm more like Anakin and Luke.

I think Luke is the ultimate hero. He stands up to the Emporer and says 'I'm a Jedi, like my father before me'...He has morals and no matter what the concequences he sticks with them...He will do anything to save his friends, even facing Vader with no help from Ben.

i would have to say my hero is qui-gon very patient and optimistic about any situation, Obi-wan would be my second choice being the hero who doesn't care about the fame just does what he feels is right

My hero would be Jacen Solo. This guy is incredible in the Dark Nest Trilogy. Hes found a way to see through time, and actually communicate through time also. Its just amazing what this guy can do. He also convinced the Jedi's to accept the fact that there is no light or dark side. That those who have fallen to the darkside do so because their actions lead them there. They want power so they harvest it, and thus they seem dark. Those who are light side are the righteous, and have high virtues. But there is no true light or dark side anymore.

Luke is a hero for facing the emperor, he is also very stupid in throwing away his lightsaber. I know, I know if he hadn't Vader wouldn't have tuurned back to the light yadda yadda...

Hero's seem to be heroic precisely beacuse of their stupidity and optimisim. Their survival is usually against overwhelming odds.

You could have added heroic martyr as well. The japanese view a hero as someone who has to suffer before they reach their victory. Without the suffering there is no real achievement.

From a certain point of view you could interpret someone like Palpatine as a hero, although many wouldn't!
