Dragon*Con, 2005 was my first convention. Ever. And it was a blast.
I admit, I was nervous the first night I was there. The costumes and even the regular clothing of some of those attending was slightly shocking to me who grew up in suburbia. But after that first night I became used to the "sights" of Dragon*con. I guess it was a good con to go to, for a first one. There wasn't as much Star Wars stuff as I was hoping for-but I had Star Trek panels, and the Firefly/Serenity panels to go to also.
The one panel I made it to that was Star Wars centric was Star Wars Is Forever. It was led by Steve Sansweet and it sounds like it's the same program that was at ComicCon? Anyway, he showed several video's previewing new video games, and he also showed one deleted scene from ROTS, and he showed the Hyperspace Documentary, The Journey. It was cool to see it on a larger screen, though I had seen it online when it first came out. He then answered a few questions and once again, confirmed, with no hesitation that there will be no more movies made (at least not by George himself). George Lucas is done making Star Wars movies. And he also said if there is a live action TV show, it'll be about 5 years down the line, as I guess right now they are focusing on a 3D animated series for TV.
Also that day, I went to the Star Wars Costume Contest-that was cool. I knew a few people who were entered, and one of my friends was a judge.
The last thing that night was a Mr. Star Wars contest. It was a little painful, a little funny and not that bad of a way to spend an hour of the evening.
Most of the Star Wars costumes I saw were good-though there weren't as many as I would have guessed. I myself even dressed up.
I saw three really good Chewbacca costumes, and I had my pic taken with one of them. The same one that won Judges Choice in the Costume Contest.
I finally got my Peter Mayhew/Chewbacca autograph and saw Ray Park and Daniel Logan.
Ray Park actually took part in a costuming panel, which was quite interesting. The people I went with are big costumers, so I was a tagalong to this panel (nothing else I wanted to see). But I actually found it interesting. Ray Park and another actor from Witchblade talked about their roles and the costumes they've worn and the audience asked questions of them. It was interesting. I'm glad I went. We were all a little skeptical of seeing a costume panel with Ray Park in it, but it turned out okay.
Well, that's all I can think of at the moment-if more things come to me, I'll post another entry.
