Here we go, my review for Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. I waited years for this movie, and it finally came...and went. Here's my thoughts on the movie.
Special Effects
This movie held the most realistic special effects I have ever seen, blowing any other movie out of the water. Coruscant was so well done that it seemed as though they filmed it in a real city. The battle above it was amazing as well, with the moves so awe-inspiring it made me dizzy, and so much depth that you really got a good feel of the magnitude of the battle. Other planets were awesome as well, such as Mygeeto, Utopau, Alderaan, and of course, Mustafar. The lava and terrain on Mustafar was incredible, really adding to the Obi-Wan/Anakin duel. The CG characters were astounding as well. Yoda had much more emotions and realistic expressions than ever before, and fought with some serious moves that haven't been seen before by a computerized character. And finally, Grievous topped them all off. Move over Gollum, we have a new all-time best CG character.
Rating: 10/10
Duels
The number of duels in this movie was unlike any other as well. Here's my favorites in order, as well as their rating:
1. Anakin vs. Obi-Wan: 10/10
This duel was simply amazing. At times, I couldn't even keep track of the lightsabers moving because they were so fast. Another aspect of it was the emotional pain that both of them were going through by fighting each other, which made the end result so much more tragic. The line "But you were the Chosen One!...", and the response of "I HATE YOU!", were the most powerful lines of the whole movie in my opinion. No other duel in any of the movies compares to this.
2. Yoda vs. Sidious: 10/10
This duel simply rocked. Both of them were so powerful in the Force, and the battle between them was the biggest display of pure force power seen in any of the movies. The dialogue was awesome as well to start off the duel, with Sidious' line of "At last the Jedi have been destroyed.", then Yoda saying "Not if have a say in it, I do."
3. Mace vs. Palpatine: 9/10
Honestly, this duel disappointed me a little bit. It was pretty short, considering how awesome both of them are at fighting, and their moves were pretty basic as well. Nothing fancy like the Obi-Wan/Anakin duel. However, this was a very powerful scene, because it led to the naming of Darth Vader and his pledge to the Sith, as well as the deformatino of Palpatine's face. Those two reasons alone more than made up for the lack of length and spectacular moves.
4. Obi-Wan vs. Grievous: 8/10
Though #4 on my list, Grievous was awesome in this duel. It made me gasp when he drew out all four lightsabers and twirled them to make a pathway of lightsaber cuts in the ground. That was awesome. The duel was pretty short-lived though, with Grievous getting two of his hands cut off right off the bat. It was awesome though, especially Grievous exploding at the end.
5. Anakin/Obi-Wan vs. Dooku: 5/10
This duel surprised me, for it was very short. One minute all three clash blades, the next Obi-Wan is knocked out, and the next Anakin slices off Dooku's head. For the importance that Dooku holds in the story, I thought he'd at least stay around for a little longer. Guess not.
Duels Overall: 10/10
Battles
As mentioned above, the Coruscant space battle was awesome, with the special effects like no other. However, the Kashyyk battle was far too short, with only maybe a minute of it shown at most. What was shown, though, was awesome, once again having spectacular special effects involved. Besides that, there weren't really any besides the ones shown during Order 66, and those were all centered around the Jedi getting killed anyway.
Rating: 9/10
Dialog/Acting
The dialog was great in this movie, I thought. Obi-Wan had a few funny lines, as well as some very painful, emotional ones, such as the one at the end of his duel with Anakin. The acting was great, Hayden doing a wonderful job of showing the struggle that Anakin was going through. Palpatine too was simply amazing, delivering lines that gave chills to my bones. Padme did wonderful as well, doing a great job of showing how torn she felt about Anakin.
Rating: 10/10
Music
The music was simply amazing, just perfectly fit into the movie. I don't have to go into this much, as I already wrote about this previously.
Rating: 10/10
Complaints
My main complaint was that the movie was too fast. Sometimes the scenes felt too rushed, especially scenes with Anakin and Padme, as well as other important areas of dialogue. Also, Yoda should've been shown dropped on Degobah, and Qui-Gonn talking to Obi-Wan and Yoda. Neither of these effected more than minorly how good the movie was though. Other than that, I really don't have any complaints.
My Favorite Parts
I'd have to say that my favorite part of the movie was the contruction of Vader, and him walking on the bridge of the Imperial cruiser to watch the Death Star being built, along with Palpatine and Tarkin. Following closely with that would be the duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan, because of the high amount of emotion involved and the skill shown in it. Another good scene was when Palpatine confessed that he was the Dark Lord to Anakin, carrying the first hints of his true evil nature that we have seen in the prequels. And finally, the last scene of Luke being delivered to Owen and Beru really touched me, knowing that this would be the last shot ever in a Star Wars movie, and that the saga was now complete.
Overall
Overall, this movie was amazing. It held everything to make a good movie: good humor, great action, good acting, great story line, and very emotionally touching. If ever there were a perfect way to end the saga, this was it. It brilliantly tied in with the original trilogy, and really delivered. This movie deserves 11 out of 10 stars.
