Over three weeks ago I bought my ticket for the madness that begins in mere hours. Years of anticipation and speculation all culminate tonight as I, and just about everyone else across the stars (well, at least planet Earth), finally gain some much needed relief -- since I spent the last 3 years relatively spoiler free -- and closure to all those questions that I've had ever since the original trilogy days. Yes, my fellow Star Wars junkies,
Sith happens at midnight tonight and I feel the madness!!!
However, I have a mixed bag of emotions coursing through me now, as I write this. Sure, I'm thrilled to finally see something I've waited so long for, but at the same time I'm a little sad as well. This is the last opportunity I will ever have to see a midnight premier of a new Star Wars movie. This is the end.
Tonight, before the show, I'll stop by Burger King (more for the toys than the "food"), re-enacting a tradition that dates back to my childhood and the early days of Star Wars tie-in, collectibles. I'll think about what a long and wonderful journey it's been, following the lead of the modern myth-maker we know as "George." Then it's off to the movies to watch history unfold (in more ways than one) and THE legend of all legends conclude.
For a little over two hours I'll leave this plain of existence and be transported to that galaxy far, far away. For a little while I won't have to think about the uncertainty this world holds and will escape into the ether of fantasy. After all, that is the great gift George Lucas has given us, the chance to dream again. And after the myth concludes perhaps I'll shed a tear . . . I don't know. But I do know one thing is certain, I'll have a huge smile on my face.
So thank you, George, for the memories . . .
And may the force be with us, always . . .
