Lightsabers. Probrably one of the greatest addition to the Star Wars galaxy. What fan hasn't dreamed of choosing your color, customizing your design, and slicing down evil opponents.
But after watching RotS again the other night, I would definately think twice about picking up a lightsaber.
Watching Anakin slice through the leaders of the Confederacy on Mustafar, and watching Yoda slice up those Clone Troopers outside of the Temple really showed how powerful these weapons are. With a quick slice, the victims drop to the ground...... dead of course. But how?
You see Anakin or Yoda slice thier enemies, but it doesnt look like thier slicing that deep. Or into vital organs. Yet dead they are. My thoughts are that the sabers sear deeper into the victims then just what is touched by the actual energy blade. The burn continues into the chest cavity, esentially shutting down all the vital organs. This type of shock would knock nearly any SW person unconcious from the pain, and they would die a few minutes later for obvious reasons.
But then you see Jedi getting sliced many times. Ones that come to mind of course are Luke in ESB, Obi-Wan and Anakin in AotC, and Dooku in RotS. They arent knocked out, but they also arent hit in vital areas.
Im thinking that in the heat of the battle, with the Force flowing through them, energizing them, and protecting them, they are prepared for, and block the pain from a lightsaber burn, which allows them to stay concious.
Im just getting my thoughts out there to see what everyone thinks. Maybe if a real lightsaber was invented, you would be a bit careful wiht it. Makes you think a little bit about Luke casually picking Anakins old blade up and waving it around in ANH. It wouldnt really have been that great a movie if he just accidently sliced old Obi-Wan, but it would have been funny.
