Book Review: Shadows of the Empire
This one came highly recommended by Sars. It did not dissappoint.

Shadows of the Empire, by Steve Perry
THE GOOD:
How 'bout most of the book! It was decently funny and moved at a fairly good pace. Nothing egde-of-your-seat, save for the very end. Xizor of course pretty much made this book, He was by far the most interesting character in the book, and he was so dang hot!! :x :8} Ahem. anyways, I liked Lando and Luke working as a team and I loved Leia. The last book with any Leia I read was Splinter of the Mind's Eye, so this was much more like the Leia we're used to seeing.

THE BAD:
This wasn't too bad, but I honestly think the Lando/Luke team would have been better without Dash. Having Dash just made it feel like Han was still there. I honestly didn't feel like I'd lost anything. It almost felt like he was a Han replacement. Dash was great, but he would have been better if he wasn't so much like Han. The one other thing was that parts of it were a little slow.

THE OTHER:
Are you seriously trying to tell me that the "many Bothans who died to bring us this information" was half a squad of greenie pilots?! I'm not trying to sound heart-hearted or anything here, but the way Mon Mothma says thatt line makes it sound as if a hundred or so Bothans were killed in a massive information raid on Coruscant or something! I was a little dissapointed that the story behind that line wasn't the great and tragic massacre I'd always pictured it.

Overall, it was average. Xizor definitely makes it worth it!

I haven't reviewed this book yet on my blog, but on the whole I liked it. I do have to agree with you in thinking that "many Bothans died to bring us this information" meant more than half of a squadron, but maybe Borsk Fey'la (the Bothan politician) exaggerated slightly to the Rebel High Command. :)

I'm not into the Expanded Universe, but the only exception is Shadows of the Empire. I love this book (and the video game). I still have it, but I haven't read in over a decade.

i agree that it is a good book, despite the slow parts and Dash being like another Han (b4 anyone asks, i know that i'm only 18, but my father had the book, and gave it to me)
howevr, i wouldn't be entirely surprised if Borsk Fey'la was exaggerating the numbrs, but what if they didnt know the exact numbers, in case word got to the empire (or whatever)
