Khan Shoots First!!
While cruising around on the Digital Bits page, I came across some very interesting news: The original Star Trek series will be "upgraded" with new CGI effects for its release in future High-Definition DVD formats.

Since I am not that much of a Trek fan(I'll watch it sometimes. I of course like Wrath of Khan and will watch anything with the Borg:D), I really don't know what to say about it. Just read the articles I linked to so you can hear what those involved have to say, as well as fan reactions, which ranges from "cool!" to more irate and venomous reactions. I have read some of the comments that posters have left. Only a few are level-headed and open-minded, while I regret to say that the rest are quite profane. There is no problem in having misgivings about it, but making personal attacks and using obscene and degrading language is totally uncalled for. Case in point: at Aint It Cool News many have quite predictably brought up George Lucas. Mostly it consists immature insults such as "They are doing to Trek what that fat turkey-necked money-grubbing Luc-### (the term Luca$ is also used) did when he raped my childhood and crapped CGI all over his movies."

All I have to say about this news (for now at least) is "What would Gene Roddenberry think? Would he aprove?" That is my question, Since he died in the early 90's. If he actually said before he died "I would like the original series to be updated" or if he was still alive today, I wouldn't have a problem with it. Which brings up Lucas. He is the creator, and as long as he is still alive, he can do any gorramn thing he wants with his movies. And after his death, nobody should mess with them, not even his children or Rick McCallum.

'Nuff Said (for now... expect more on this issue from me later)

Discuss Please. And keep it civil.;)
