To celebrate my 101st Blog here at Star Wars.com, I wanted to do something special, but wasn't sure exactly what to do.
Should I do a recap of blogs past? Nah, it's been done and I figure you all know how to page back through my back catalogue if you wanted to.
Then, by a friends suggestion, I decided to do a Top 25 Star Wars Items In My Collection list!
I was originally thinking a Top 101 but The Maker knows that would have taken forever to write, let alone read!
Still, narrowing it all down to 25 items wasn't easy, but all of the items that made the cut have some type of special meaning and value to me that far exceeds what they may be considered "worth" in terms of monetary value or collectability.
So let's get to it, shall we? These are in no particular order of importance, by the way.
1:
Darth Vader Halloween Mask converted into a custom made light switch cover! I don't have a LOT of creative inspirations but when I do they're usually pretty good.
2:
The 2005 Special Edition Vanity Fair Cover that features cast members of BOTH trilogies together for the first time on one magazine cover, and which I have since had signed by quite a few actors and hope to get many more at C4!
3:
My Vader VS Obi Wan Diorama which came out far better than I expected it to! My creative side comes through again.
4: My
Vintage Figures and Figure Stand, ....the first SW action figures EVER, the original ones that started it all!
5:
Darth Vader VS Darth Maul Comic ....not only a cool idea for a comic book, BUT I got it signed by both Dave Prowse AND Ray Park!
7: These next two are really part of the same item: These cardboard cut outs of
C-3PO and
Chewbacca I rescued from the cardboard crusher at a local foodstore awhile back, they were part of a Kelloggs cereal display. I didn't manage to get the whole display case as it was already destroyed but I managed to keep these two from the recycle center anyway.
8: Movie Maniacs
Jaws: Deluxe Boxed Set ...my favorite Non Star Wars toy hands down, it's really very well detailed.
9: Ok, another non SW item makes the cut: my
12" Indiana Jones Figure , a Disney MGM Exclusive.
10:
Darth Maul Unleashed ...I have several great Unleashed figs, Maul is one of my faves though, it just seems to capture his grace and darkness at the same time.
11: This Japanese import
Remote Controlled R2-D2 Toy is way fun; it rolls, beeps and whistles and its all controlled by the tiny Lightsaber remote control. Plus the package design allows for it to be opened without destroying the box, so he can be stored away when not in use!
12: It was tough to choose just one of the Code 3 D Movie Posters, but if I had to choose just ONE to buy it would have been this one: the iconic
Star Wars Style A Movie Poster which is one of the first images many of us ever saw of Star Wars before the film was actually released.
13: These
Antenna Toppers Set were a Celebration III Exclusive; and the Vader head was ONLY available if you bought the four day pass! The other three came in the display case and then you could add your Vader.
14: The
Ep. III Action Banks which you saw in video webcam action if you checked out
Chapter 28 of the tour.
15:
The Code 3 Millennium Die Cast Model shown here with many of her smaller cousins. She really is one of the most beautiful pieces in my collection.
16:
The Celebration III Exclusive Talking Darth Vader Figure. ...not only a great Con Exclusive, not only a great tribute for Ep.III, BUT one of the best package designs for a toy ever in my opinion. You can press the button to hear him speak in James Earl Jones actual voice AND change the batteries for it should you ever need to....all with OUT having to open or destroy the package! BRILLIANT!
17: My
Original OT Paperback Novels may be worn, torn and faded but they are still a cherished part of my collection and the only few items to actually survive my youth and remain with me all these years!
18:
Darth Mickey ...Ok, I'm not a HUGE Disney fan by any stretch, but one has to admit this was the perfect combination of two totally different genres and just too darn cute NOT to have!
19: My
Signed Millennium Falcon Concept Art lithograph hand signed by Ralph McQuarrie himself!!! It was McQuarrie's brilliant conceptual art that not only brought the Star Wars universe to life but was directly responsible for Lucas being able to get the film even MADE, and I am honored to own a hand signed piece of his work. I wish this photo did the print justice.
20:
The Unleashed Shocktrooper ....now what's so special about him you may ask? Well, besides the fact that he's COOL, he is also one of the very first items I added to the collection that was found for me using the
Geeks Helping Geeks collectors club I'd established with several fellow collectors. Had not my fellow collector geek buddy "Oocleenee" found it for me I would never have gotten it, as I had searched for months in vain.
21:
George Lucas In Stormtrooper Disguise Figure ...a lot of aggrevation to get but in the end, worth it!
22: The
Gentle Giant Vader / Anakin Reveal Bust which is the first and hopefully not the last piece I will get from GG; it really is a work of art.
23:
Marvel Comics: Star Wars #1 an original 1st. print edition from 1977! After many, MANY years I managed to add this comic BACK to my collection after my mother, in her infinite wisdom, tossed out so many of my classic old books!
24:
The Master Replicas Darth Maul Mini Saber, The Collectors Society 2005 edition that is the full length saber as opposed to its battle damaged earlier version. I have several of the mini sabers and while they are far cheaper than MR's full scaled versions, they are still of excellent detail and quality! A far more affordable alternative for those of us with tight budgets.
25: I saved this for last because instead of just showing it to you I decided to do a
webcam segment on it instead to show you just why it made the list.
BUT, I hear someone asking, "Deej, they're all really cool, but what's the coolest toy to actually PLAY with?"
I'm so glad you asked!
Well thanks as always for tagging along with me for 101 blogs, and a special thanks to ALL of the very special friends I have made along the way. Many of you I will be meeting face to face at C4, and I can't wait, but I also look forward to 101 more blogs, meeting more fans and making many more friends here for a long time to come!
