Ok so I promised way back in
this blog here that when I was finished those lightsaber projects I was working on I would share the results with you, so here we go.
First up let's look at the
original Graflex Flash Gun handle again, before I finished it.
I ordered some parts from a seller at ebay who sells kits especially designed to convert these handles into a Luke Skywalker lightsaber. Basically all the kit consists of is the rubber grips for the handle, the plastic bubble piece for the "switch," the D ring for the belt hook and a strip of chrome tape to cover the Graflex inscription on the handle.
It took all of a few minutes to apply these parts and make it into a VERY
authentic ANH Luke Lightsaber.
I also cleaned it up a little with some chrome polish to get it to
shine better and although it does have some
scratches on it it gives it a nice
worn look to it I think.
Now, on to the second one, the
Helix Flash Gun handle that looks much like Darth Vaders but not quite.
This one I decided to make a custom version of and trust me, it wasn't nearly as easy as the Luke version.
Some of the parts I used for it I found around the house, others I went hunting for in craft & hardware stores.
This
chrome knob I found at home and screwed right into the base of the handle.
I also found some other
oddball items to make a switch for it and really just to add some kind of design to it.
I found some nice rubber door trim at an auto shop that I
cut into strips for the grips and then decorated with some red flame pin stripping.
Here is what it looks like
finished, and again from the
other side.
The metal piece
along the top was part of the flash gun handle that I basically just reversed around to become a
knuckle guard and added a piece of red reflecting tape to make it stand out...I know a knuckle guard on a lightsaber may sound kind of silly, but let's pretend it's made out of that lightsaber resistant metal the Mandos use for their armor LOL...
In
this picture you can see I added some red and black electrical wiring, and the red beneath the ring clamp is some red electrical tape I put on the inside.
You can
also see here where I added a D Ring for the belt hook and a better look at the finished switch assembly.
Well,
that's it.
I'd love some feedback so let me know what you think, and don't be afraid to be honest if you DON'T like it.
I hope to get back to my toy blogs again soon so I hope to see you all again real soon.
