What's In A Name? Pts. I & II (or, what does "Got Feet?" mean anyways?)
This is what I get for not paying attention I suppose, but you'd think Star Wars Online would have sent an email with the notice instead of simply posting it onsite where it could be missed.

Anyway, as many of you have probably figured out by now, as of May 16, 2005 our screen names became PERMANENT.

Which isn't a MAJOR problem, except for the fact that I didn't KNOW about it until after the fact. :O

Now, like many of you, I had adopted a screen name or persona, "DJ Maul," as my permanent nickname, but would alter it and add a "tag line" after with whatever bit of wit would enter my mind at the moment. It would change often whenever the mood struck, but I always kept DJ Maul in the beginning for ID purposes.

Anyway, my last tagline, "Got Feet?" was a play on those famous milk adds...Since I'm "DJ Maul" and Maul got cut in half and had no FEET left....get it? Yea I know, not THAT funny....but anyways... :8}

So now it seems I am forever STUCK with that stupid joke as part of my screen name due to the change. Had I known I would of course have removed it before the deadline and gone by simply "DJ Maul."

Oh well. Life goes on. Perhaps I can find a way to make a plea to the powers that be to change it, but for now, "Got Feet?" may become the longest lame joke I've ever come up with.

Do me a favor: If you ever respond to my blogs or message board entries, just IGNORE that "Got Feet?" business.

DJ Maul is my REAL screen name. "Got Feet?" is a joke that should have been deleted.

What's In a Name Pt.II, OR...Have you ever seen a Sith Lord do The Chicken Dance?

Trust me, this will all make sense eventually....or maybe not.

Anyway, the origins of my screen name continue.

A little bit about myself: I am a Mobile Disc Jockey, or "DJ" for short. You know, available for weddings, birthdays, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs...you name it and I've probably played music for it in the past eleven going on 12 years.

It's a fun job, and it let's me really act out my silly side, especially when it comes to those ever popular "group participation dances," like the Electric Slides, the Conga Line, the YMCA, and yes...the dreaded Chicken Dance.

(Hey, trust me, I play GOOD music too, I promise.)

Anyway, so when I slowly got involved in this internet thingie, I of course hit that wall that many people do when it comes to labeling your email addresses etc:

just what the heck do I CALL myself anyways?

Safety of course suggests not using ones REAL name, but one needs it to be simple and easy to remember.

Anyway, after much pondering and head pounding I decided to keep it simple:

djmac1031

"dj"...because Im a DJ.

"mac"...the beginning of my last name, and what a lot of guys call me anyway.

"1031'....yep....you guessed it....my BIRTHDAY.

simple as pie, right?

as a creature of habit it's my screen name almost everywhere I go on the world wide web, although watch out for imitators....when first searching I wanted JUST "djmac" but there are aparently quite a LOT of "djmac's" out there.

and it was my screen name when I initially came to discover the wonderful world of StarWars.Com

After awhile I realized that the screen names could be CHANGED, and upon seeing so many cool creative SW themed screen names I came to understand how incredibly DULL mine was by comparrison.

So...the wheels started turning: I needed a new name.

Now, I'll be the first to admit it: Im not the most creative person.

So "DJ" just seemed to stick...plus it's just become part of my ID now, so it had to stay.

so...."DJ" who?

DJ Vader?....nah....didnt work.

DJ Skywalker...?....nope, too clumsy

then it hit me, like Jake Blues in the Gospel Church:

I Saw The Light.

well, actually, what I saw was a mental picture, a bizzare yet hysterical image that only pops into one's head when one has been up far too late without sleep and finds even the stupidest thing incredibly FUNNY.

I had a vison of Darth Maul doing the chicken dance.

the rest is history.

We all tend to abbreviate the longer screen names anyway, so no problemo, DJ Maul. I thought the "Got Feet?" part of your name was sort of a quazi-advertisement for your Dee-jay services. You know, Got Feet? I've got the tunes, sort of thing. Oh well, like my counterpart, R2-D2, I have been known to make mistakes, from time to time.

gweniveve? Im sure that is an interesting story.

I needed to write this blog because I was always getting asked what the heck the "got feet?" thing was about, and instead of having to tell the same story over and over I just direct them here now.

There's a part two to this story if you're interested...

It's not that bad of a name! I like it! But why did they make it a policy that you can't change screen names? ?:|
