"A Great Disturbance" Fan Film of CIII - a review
First I want to thank M68 for pointing this out to me.

I recently purchased and watched the fan film "A Great Disturbance" which is a "mock - u - mentary" following the exploits of five Star Wars fans as they attend Celebration III back in April of 2005.

Produced by Aegis Films the movie is part reality, part fiction. The characters it follows and their exploits are fictional, but of course the Con and the events that take place there are NOT.

It is a humorous, tongue in cheek look at the Die Hard Star Wars Fan.

The characters include:

Phil - the HARD CORE fan who knows EVERYTHING, "even more than George Lucas," about the Star Wars Universe, and isn't afraid to point it out to anyone who will listen.

Doug - The Star Wars Mini's Gamer. Ultra competitive, he has high hopes of playing amongst some of the "greatest gamers in the world" only to have his butt kicked by a 12 year old. He doesn't take it well.

Lee - The stereotypical "Star Wars Geek" who still lives at home with mom and who's major thrill of the convention is debuting his HOME MADE Stormtrooper costume...I won't give too much away but let's just say "athletic gear" is involved.

Smitty & Derek - two life long buddies who attend the Con together. Smitty is the "hard core" fan while Derek is the guy who thinks Star Wars is "okay" but really just wants to meet girls and drink!

The film follows these characters through out the three days of C3 as they interact with real attendees in staged and un-staged situations.

I must warn you, if you do NOT have the ability to laugh at yourself you may take offense to how Star Wars fans are portrayed in some segments, but again this film was created BY fans and is STRICTLY a parody of all the stereotypes typically labeled upon us. So don't take it too seriously in that regard.

It is a family friendly film, no harsh language, nudity or inappropriate material for younglings...there was one, perhaps two instances of language used where BLEEPS were inserted over it, that was as bad as it got.

For any one who attended C3, such as myself, it is also a great way to look back and recapture some memories. While they were NOT allowed to film any of the exhibits, we do get a GREAT look at so many of the wonderful, amazing fans who attended, the incredible costumes, some of the great booths in the shop areas, and yes those amazingly long LINES we all waited in.

There's also some killer footage of the Celebration Party that took place on Saturday night, and if you look REALLY close you will see a two second shot of a guy dressed up as Darth Vader in a tuxedo playing "air lightsaber" and rocking out to the band...YEP, you're ol' pal Deej made the cut! However, don't BLINK as you may miss me!

Even if you did NOT attend C3 I'd recommend the film as just a fun Star Wars experience, plus if you're planning on going to C4 it will give you just a LITTLE hint of what you are in for.

The DVD is available for sale should you be interested, or you can drop by their My Space page and check out some trailers and clips. I recommend it highly.
