response to the Family Guy try at a parody...not
Hey, I've never watched Family Guy. ONLY REASON I tuned in: Star Wars. What a disappointment. First off, I thought he was going to "tell the story" of Star Wars. What got instead was an irreverant and vulgar imitation using (presumably) familiar characters from the show. How unoriginal. And gross. I turned it off. Now I know why I've never watched the show to begin with.

About the only thing I found good about it was the animation, which was brilliant.

A couple minor jokes at points in "the movie".

Overall.....not a fan at all. I blogged about this today as well.

If you aren't a fan of the show's style of comedy, then there's no way you'd enjoy this episode, no matter how much Star Wars there may be.

I have to admit that I am not usually a FG watcher but, I thought the episode was hilarious....

Like you, the only reason I watched was because our very own Stooge turned me on to it and because, well, it was Star Wars.

I too thought it was going to be the story of Star Wars (you know, 4-3) but, I have to admit that by the end of the episode, I was yearning for a retelling of Ep's 5 & 6 and 1-3.

Not to mention the fact that I've not laughed the way I laughed last night in a long, long time....

On other points though, it sort of lost it's umph mid way through the show. The first 1/2 was absolutely hilarious. The second 1/2 was funny but, more in tuned to the regular FG watchers, IMO, as it seemed to be referencing people and things I'd never heard of.

The animation? Fantastic!

There were a few funny gags, but mostly it was vulgar and not funny... Grampy-Wan asked if I wanted it deleted from the DVR and I said, "Yes, and I'd appreciate it if you'd erase it from my brain, too." ;

I hope I'm not the only person who thought making old Ben into a child molester was disgusting... I hope no kids talked their parents into watching this because it was SW related...

Dude, I love it!!! Like JawaJoey said, if you don't watch Family Guy, you wouldn't find it funny. I love how they used Herbert as Obi-Wan. Classic in my opinion, knowing the "relationship" they have on the T.V. show. I just loved it, sorry.

I tried watching FG long ago and was just really aggravated by both the animation and the characters.. heck, the whole style of the show. I didn't get a chance to tune in last night anyway, but I watched some of the clips on sw.com. Yeah. Still not impressed. It's kind of painful. I really, really wanted to watch only because it was Star Wars, but I still couldn't stomach the show. Talk about being torn apart!:_|

You're not alone. :)

Most of the comments on my LiveJournal seem to agree the show dragged halfway through and frankly, the overall ick factor of the pedophile character was the episode's low point. I just don't find that sort of thing funny in any context.

It is however, a show along the lines of "South Park" and it's humor isn't for everyone. It's definitely not appropriate for children. For me the best jokes were about the film itself and the various pop culture references.

Like nobby and slow said, the animation on the space scenes was outstanding. The way the did the ships and planets was cool. Slow talks about it more in his blog. I don't watch FG enough to get the character choices and the old man drove me nuts, for a number of reasons as stated above, the least of which was the annoying whistle when he talked. Overall, I give it two stars, mainly for the space animation.

I typically don't watch it, never really cared much for that type of crude comedy. Of course, I know some people who love it. I guess it's just all about what you like.

Ive watched Family Guy just a few times so I too was lost on several of the more "inside" jokes and characters (and yeah the creepy Old Obi Wan wasnt funny) but for the most part it was a brilliantly animated and very funny SPOOF and you could tell the makers were FANS; the jokes were made with love of the film, not cruelty.

But The Family Guy is KNOWN for its irreverent and sometimes downright CRUDE humor and it certainly does not suit everyones tastes.

I liked it. I thought the animation was off the hook. I also liked the various observational comments - like there should be a railing here. I also happen to like family guy so its not a surprise that liked it.

I know, that made me crack up. My favorite part was when Chris walked into the cell and him and Louis talked. That was awesome in my opinion.

It's interesting... you bring up a good point. If viewers didn't like FG beforehand, I doubt this will particular episode would convert them.

I love star wars. I love family guy. I LOVED this episode.

For those of you that wanted every single bit from the movie then watch the movie.
This was an hour long episode of family guy with their twist. They took there characters changed them to do a movie twist and I find it was an excellent job. I loved every minute of the show.

Seth Green's plug at for robot chicken at the very end was priceless.

I love both, and I think it was great. Yeah the musical number was a bit much, but the idea of a pedophilic Obi-Wan is a bit funny to me. It was a show you can only understand if you already watch FG. If you don't watch FG, you'll probably find it tasteless and horrid. It's a South Park-esqe show.

Family Guy is not written for people who lack a sense of humor. If you don't like FG, you won't like this episode. If you watch FG regularly, then you know that the old man was perfect for the "mentor" Obi-Wan role. If you don't watch the show, you won't get at least half of the references made throughout.

I agree I think the part where Chris runs into Lois in the detention block was one of the funniest gags FG has done since it came on.

Stooge, you underestimate the power of FG...ha!

Actually, I totally forgot this was on and missed it completely. I keep meaning to look at the highlights on this site, but I have to wait until I get home because my computer doesn't allow it at work, however by then I'm too tired to bother. What can I say? Ha!

Wow..."Pretentious Police" pull over! So, do you know how fast you were "judging" just then? B-)

As someone who enjoys the occasional episode (I haven't been keeping up recently) of "Family Guy" I will say they did a fantastic job of telling the ANH story (in many cases "shot-for-shot" ) and putting their own irreverant spin on things.

I want the next SE of ANH to have the real Vader voice going "what the deuce?" when Han shows up!

I really love Family Guy. Although many of the shows are hit or miss. I have to agree that I was disappointed in the Star Wars special too. I think the regular Star Wars cut scenes in the series are funnier.

I had mixed feelings about it it was very funny being a big SW & FG fan, but I agree with the other writers who said that it wasn't too kid friendly and you know people not familiar with FG would let jr. watch it and get the surprise of thier lives with a few of the jokes. It should have been on later and I found it very funny.
