Order 66, The Pope, a King, and The Templar Knights |
The first time I saw Revenge of the Sith and heard the simultaneous command of order 66 to all of the Grand Army of the Republic it seemed almost familiar. I finally found out why...
...The year was 1307, a large and powerful group of men were on a righteous quest to protect the holy land and preserve Christianity, simultaneously gaining enormous power and wealth since after the first crusade. They were the Knights of the Temple of Solomon or more commonly known as the Templar Knights. The Church they protected became jealous and threatened by their increasing power. The leader of the Vatican and Roman Catholic Church, Pope Clemente V, instructed King Philip IV of France to destroy the Templars. Pope Clemente V devised a devious plan and had King Philip IV letters sent out to all of his troops all across the land. Each was instructed not to open the letters until a certain date. On this date, Friday October the13th (the origin of the "unlucky Friday the 13th"), the troops simultaneously open their letters. The letter instructed the immediate execution, by order of the Pope and King Philip, of the top 60 members of the Knights, including the Grand Master Jacques DeMolay. To make the public and troops go through and eventually hunt down the rest of the Templars, the Church claimed the Templars had been caught worshipping Satan, defiling the cross and Church, and other blasphemies...
Now doesn't this story seem awfully familiar? If you haven't put the connection together yet, let's change a few names around. Let's make the Templar Knights the Jedi Knights, Pope Clemente V will be Palpatine, King Philip IV will be Skywalker, and finally Grand Master Jacques DeMolay will be none other than Jedi Master Yoda.
All this gives us a story of a Sith jealous of the Jedi Knights who used a powerful man and the army the Knights were sworn to help and lead to destroy the Jedi themselves on a order given simultaneously to all of the troops. And finally to quell a frightened and confused Republic, the masses were told a lie about the Jedi orchestrating a war to take supreme power over the Republic and instead of being protectors of the Republic they were the enemy of it.
Oh George, how many historical satires will we eventually find under the surface of your great works?
Oh and did I mention Order 66 is a representation of the number of the Beast, 666, you know the guy the Templar Knights were supposedly worshipping.
