Before reading this book, I guess I just didn't get the change from Republic to Empire. Sure, I knew about it, but it just hadn't sunk in yet. Then came Dark Lord. An excellent book, through which I finally got the idea of betrayal. It starts with the closing hours of the Clone Wars with Jedi heading into battle. Suddenly, the clone commander receives Order 66, which we all know about. He forwards the command to the clone commando unit near the Jedi, who does not carry it out. This allows the Jedi to escape. Back on Coruscant, Vader and Sidious talk about the dark side, Vader wanting to take down Sidious, etc. Vader is sent to punish the clone and get the Jedi on the way. Much of the book is the Jedi struggling to cope with the destruction of the Jedi Order. Their utter hopelessness is felt, and profoundly affected me. Some want to rise and take out Palpatine, others disagree. There are also plenty of Vader vs. Multiple Jedi in here as well. Tarkin has apperences, and how and why Kashyyyk was enslaved are revealed. Where do you think the Wookiees that worked on the Death Star came from? Also, Bail figures out Vader's identity, C-3PO is still so confused, and Fang Zar makes an apperance. A great, but almost too short book that really communicates the Jedi' plight after ROTS. I heartily recommend it, for it is also written by James Luceno, one of the few great EU writers. (There aren't many out there). Anyway, so go to your local library or Borders and get this book. It answers many age-old questions, and really helps bridge the gap between ROTS and ANH.
Edit: This seems to be my 66th entry. How appropriate.
