I was recently thinking about a question, similar to the one posed in a previous blog
here, what are some of the areas/projects I would like to see SW media explore.
1. A Lumiya novel: We know what she was doing prior to her injury (Marvel comics) and post ROTJ (Marvel comics). We also know what role she played in the Legacy of the Force era. But in between there, she was a busy little bee. Training Sith apprentices, making plays with her associates to control the Empire, and whacking the Prophets of the Dark Side just to name a few of her activities. We know this information pretty much from a few paragraphs in a Star Wars Gamer article. Seeing the significant role she has played in the Galactic landscape, I think its time that she gets the novel treatment, kind of like Darth Bane.
2. Legacy spin offs: Right now, I feel the Legacy comic storyline is the most intriguing in the current SW media. The only complaint I have is that there is just too much going on!! Sith Empires, Empire Empires, Galactic Alliance, Jedi, Bounty Hunters, Skywalkers, Fels, Yuuzhan Vong, family issues, friend issues, double identities, AHHHHH!!! Don't get me wrong this is great stuff but I feel like some of the storylines get left in the dust and forgotten. Also, Darkhorse's regularly backed up distribution makes matters worse. I think an entire spin off series is too much but how about something like the General Grievous, Obsession storylines that were woven in with Republic? That seemed to go well. This way, this ground would be covered because the fans of this era want more.
3. Emperor's Hands comics: We know who they are but we really don't know too much of what they did. Aside from some Mara Jade (and who wouldn't want more of her), the exploits of the Emperor's Hands are briefly examined. If Dark Horse were to do a year or two of one-shots or two-parters devoted to specific hands, I think that this would be really interesting. We could get small cameos from the likes of Palpatine, Vader, and maybe some other known Rebellion era folk to tie it into the main characters and storylines. Also, if the Lumiya novel were to fly, a story on her would act also as promotion for the book and vice versa (since LFL nowadays seems to really dig the cross promotional stuff).
4. The Hundred Year Darkness: This would be a huge undertaking. I think that this storyline may be one of the most important to explore in the whole universe. I mean, how the Sith came to be? Seems like it would be something kind of important. Also, as time has gone by, more and more references are being made to this conflict (the Leviathans in the Jedi Academy comics, KOTOR games including Adjunta Pall, the ancient Sith Xoxan in Legacy, etc). I see this as being a massive storyline, like the NJO, including comic and video game tie-ins. Personally I don't think this will happen anytime soon because it sounds like Del Ray and Darkhorse have their plates full not only with their ideas, but now with pressure to produce Clone Wars tie-ins.
5. The New Sith Wars: Again, we see how they end (DH Jedi vs Sith, Path of Destruction) but we don't know a heck of a lot about what happened. Again we get pieces of info from RPGs, magazine articles, and blogs. Since this conflict lasted even longer than the Hundred Year Darkness, the possibilities would be endless, again leaning towards a massive multimedia undertaking.
6. Nihilus and Scion- I am very intrigued by these two not just because we know little about them, but because of the extraordinary powers and abilities they have. In an interview I read, Randy Stradley at DH said that the KOTOR comic was going to shy away from characters affiliated with the games. I was very disappointed because I wanted the comics to connect the dots between the Mando Wars and the Second Sith War lead by Reva and Malak. As part of this, I hoped to see Nihilus and Scion's backstories. If this does not happen, I think that these stories would be very compelling.
7. The Reborn Emperor- First off...how? I think a connection between this process and Darth Plagueis is inevitable. Then, what was he doing with all his time? He must have been up to something. If you haven't noticed, that guy is kind of a go-getter! I don't see him sitting by and watching the Empire crumble unless he had some sort of plan that it benefited him. Also, I cannot recall many opportunities where we get Palpatine's perspective on things.
Obviously the list could go on and on. Master Ki had some excellent choices. I'd like to hear some more ideas.
