My unintentional review of Outbound Flight *SPOILER FREE*
Hi everyone,

There's been a few blogs lately about SW novels and this 'series' in particular has gotten a few mentions. So I thought I would add my twopennorths worth. I've just finished re-reading Outbound Flight, before I start Survivor's Quest, and although it is a bit slow to get going it's an enjoyable read nonetheless.
It was my introduction to both Grand Admiral Thrawn and Jedi Master Jorus C'Boath, both of whom I believe, are well known characters in the EU.
I must say that I liked both characters for different reasons. Thrawn is a brilliant tactician with an almost Jedi like insight into what his enemies and allies will do, allowing him to predict what is going to happen and he has a compassion and intelligence that is hard to dislike.
Master Jorus C'Boath (JCB), on the other hand represents all that is wrong with the Order at the time of its demise. He is an arrogant bully who believes his knowledge and understanding of the force give him permission to rule over those who do not possess this skill and whom he therefore views as inferior. Although to some extent the other Jedi aboard Outbound Flight, who represent the order as a whole in that they are too slow to act on their fears, must share some of the blame.
The two characters make an interesting comparison, as both possess remarkable intelligence, insight and wisdom but the way those qualities shape their actions is completely different.
In this instance Thrawn tries to find a solution that is to the benefit of all until ultimately he is backed into a corner. The Jedi in their role as guardians and protectors should be putting the safety of their charges before personal goals but allow themselves to be pulled along by their leader.
This all leads to what is an exciting and fulfilling climax to a good if not brilliant book with the possibility of some of the characters returning, I would particularly like to hear more about Jorj Car'das.

Which ultimately leads me to the original point for which I set out to write this blog. Included at the back of this book is the short story 'Mist Encounter' which is set 1 week after the formation of the new Galactic Empire. I won't go into details but in this story there is the deployment of some of the "Emperor's new stormtroopers" I was wondering at what point did the clones become stormtroopers? I thought it was later than this, is this a continuity error, is this the fist use of what were until now a secret army or did they all just get new outfits as a bit of a treat?

Oh, one more thing. I apologize, as I can't remember who did this first, but I think it's a really good idea.
I was reading a blog the other day that contained a link to another blog, and that link was to the comments page of that blog, now as I always read the comments left on a blog this saved me the trouble. It was just a small thing but it made me smile as it was a nice gesture in the midst of a tough day.

PS I don't know if this is just a UK thing or not but it'll be Fathers Day tomorrow hence the picture, so I intend to spend the day having fun with my padawans. If there are any other Fathers out there, I hope you have a happy Fathers Day.:D
