Travelling the globe with a Jedi
Hi everyone,
You know you've been away from the blogs for a while when you get all the way to page 9 before you see a blog you recognize. I've been quite busy with one thing and another since my last blog and I haven't done a lot to do with SW lately.
My wife and kids got me some great stuff for Fathers Day inc. 3 T-shirts: the Flash, the Green Lantern (makes me look like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory) and a cool Incom X-wing Tee.
They also got me some DVD's and books, my favourites being the 2 'Long Way' series.
For those who don't know about them, they star Ewan McGregor and his best mate Charley Boorman, son of John Boorman, traveling the world on their motorbikes followed by a film crew, raising money for UNICEF.
In the first series 'The Long Way Around', Ewan and Charley circumnavigate the globe, in the second series 'Long Way Down' they travel from John O'Groats in the NE of Scotland to Cape Town in South Africa. Both series were originally shown on BBC TV in the UK, although 'Long Way Down' is being shown again on the National Geographic Channel. It's well worth a look if you can.
What I like is the insight it affords into the personality and life of Ewan, anyone who has watched the SW DVD extras will have seen some footage of him 'off camera' and he comes across as a nice guy, as he does in these trips. He is funny and intelligent and his writing in the accompanying books is expressive and emotive too.
There are some good scenes, I particularly like when they are traveling through Tunisia and visit the filming locations of Luke's homestead from ANH, and Charley winds him up because he's a bit miffed that no-one recognizes him, even though he's stood in front of a SW poster and wearing a T-shirt that says 'McGregor Long Way Down' on the back.
On a slightly different note, I've just ordered some SW Revell model kits for my son for his upcoming birthday and I'm looking forward to doing those with him, although his birthday isn't until Aug 12th so I think we'll just about get them done in time for me to take him to see 'THE CLONE WARS' can't wait.
