Rule of Two (unofficial title) update
Hey, everybody.

So I just got back from a short vacation and I thought I'd give people a brief update on where things are with the PoD sequel. (I'm just going to call it "Rule of Two" for now, even though that's not 100% official yet.)

My outline has been approved at all levels, and I'm now into the actual writing of the book. I don't want to give too much away, but of course it will feature Bane and Zannah (Rain), his new apprentice.

I'm really excited about this book, because I'm going into brand new territory here. For PoD anyone who was familiar with the comics or the general SW history sort of knew where we were headed for the ending, but with Rule of Two we're in uncharted waters. That means I get a chance to throw in a few twists and turns fans (hopefully) won't see coming. (And if I'm lucky I'll avoid the wrath of the retcon police this time.)

And, just in case somebody questions whether I should be on vacation when I'm supposed to be writing a book, no need to panic. The trip gave me a chance to catch up with my friend James Ohlen down in Austin. Why is this significant? Well, James is one of the biggest SW fans I know... some of you might recognize his name as being the Lead Designer on a little game called KOTOR.

In other words, James was my boss and mentor when I first came to BioWare, and he's the one who was ultimately responsible for getting me professionally involved in the SW franchise. So, even though I didn't discuss the book with James explicitly, just being around him put me in a "Star Wars" frame of mind. (When I wasn't golfing, at least...)

Hey thanks for taking the time to update us!!! :)

And if I'm lucky I'll avoid the wrath of the retcon police this time.

Do not be too hard on yourself - I have yet to read negative review of the first book around here.

Awsomeness. I can't wait. Thanks for keeping us up to date. And how cool is it that you got to hang out with James. KOTOR is what really brought this era into the GFFA, so in not too many degrees of separation, James has more to do with your writing than not :D

Meh. They're the minority anyway. The vast majority loved POD, even if they knew about the retcon issues. I know I did!

I am very curious to the events happening in this book (where Bane's travels will take him, and his apprentice...) I, for one, hope you get to write more Sith-stuff after this (how about a short for the new Star Wars Insider?)

Looking forward to this one, PoD was a good read

The only thing I can think you'd clash with (if you're bothered) is Bane of the Sith which can be found here http://www.starwars.com/hyperspace/member/fiction/f20040319/index.html
Whether that's classed as canon or not....?

how about a short for the new Star Wars Insider?

I'd love that. How about one that's tied in with the new novel?

I'm VERY excited about this book. The first one was great and I think this one will be even better.

As previously mentioned, I hope you make some mention of the Bane of the Sith short story, as posted above. It wasn't that long, though it did focus on a major event in Bane's life. I think if you manage to work that into the story, you'll avoid the wrath of the retcon police (of which I am a mere patrolman).

PoD was the last SW book I read and instantly when I was done with it I was hoping a sequel would be in order. Appears as though my wait won't be as long as first anticipated now :D

Having been a bit disappointed while reading some of the Clone Wars books I was happy to get a hold of PoD and give that a read. I think my bad experiences with previous books made me not want to continue on with my SW reading quest after PoD in hopes that I would get disappointed again. Looks like there is some hope on the horizon and I'm eagerly awaiting this book :)

I hope to see some features based upon Kevin J. Anderson short story - "Bane of the Sith". Good Luck, and I hope it will be much more compatible with other sources, then POD ;).

I find it GREAT!!!

Darth Sidious looks like a Jedi Padawan compaired to Darth Bane! I welcome a sequel. It is been at least 6 months scence I read PoD, and read it twice. The book sets on my book shielf, and calls to me to read it again. There is something special about that book, that makes it my favorite of all my Star Wars Books (over 100). I Really look forward to this sequel. Can I pre-order it now?

I remember reading somewhere, that before PoD ever came out that there had been a "Darth Bane Duology" planned. Did some of the ideas for Rule of Two come out of the original plan for a second book in that duology, or did the material for the second book actually end up getting absorbed into PoD? Or is there some third scenario that I'm just not thinking about?

Exciting! Exciting! Exciting!!!

I am eagerly anticipating this book as PoD has become my favorite EU novel! I don't usually like Sith, but Bane is certainly an exception and I can't wait to find out his further adventures and what happens with Rain as his apprentice! :D

Drew, I read PoD on my honeymoon a couple of weeks ago and thought it was amazing. One of, if not the best, SW books I have read. I am a huge fan of the KOTOR games so it was even better because of your many references to the games. Thank you for the wonderful book and I look fwd to reading the sequel.

JodaLewski - glad you like it.
But I hope that wasn't all you were doing on your honeymoon.
I mean, surely you had time to get in some KOTOR gaming, too.
(j/k) ;)
