Star Wars Marathon: Part 6
Hi folks! JediPaul here with another part of my SW marathon!

Episode IV observations:

A: When Darth Vader throws Captain Antillies against the wall, Antilles shields his face with his hands!

B. Darth yells a lot (especially at clones) in the first part of Episode IV. As far as I can tell, he doesn't yell in the later episodes, only threatens.

C. Darth's helmet is a flat black color, not the shiny, gloss black we see in other episodes.

D. I never understood exactly why C3PO says "That's funny, the damage doesn't seem so bad from out here." Did 3PO think the ship was nearly destroyed? Did they "shut down the main reactor" to avoid being destroyed or for some other reason?

E: In the sandcrawler, the garbage can droid goes GONK 2 or 3 times, thus fulfilling his name as a "Gonk" droid.

F: The Gonk droid runs away when the Jawas open the door to the sandcrawler!

G. Blue milk for everyone (Owen, Beru and Luke) at the evening meal: must taste good!

H. When Luke is attacked by the sand people, the gun he holds up gets hit and the barrel snaps in two.

I: The cloak in the corner of Obi Wan's room is there in one clip, but it disappears for part of the scene, only to reappear later!

J. I know this was the first movie made, but it would have been nice if Obi Wan had recognized 3PO and R2D2. Maybe a close up shot of his eyes that let you know he knew them. After all they went through in Episodes I, II & III, there's no way he could forget them, even after 20 years.

Thank you for reading this, my fellow fans and MTFBWY!:)
JediPaul out.

Yeah, I always found this curious. It's consistent with the PT Anakin, but not with the OT Vader.

Fun read!

Cool stuff. Good old Gonk! I always thought of it as a TV set droid though ;)

I like the language Obi-Wan uses to answer Luke about the droids - "I don't remember owning any droid". In retrospect, that seems to be a very elusive statement. Ben is obviously concealing from Luke any recognition of the droids. At the same time though, it was Anakin who spent most of his time with the two - he built 3PO and R2 was his astromech. Since both of those droid types are very common, maybe Ben really didn't recognize them at first. In any event, he certainly wouldn't have let Luke know!

Thanks for the thoughts. :D

Good observations.

As to Obi-wan recognizing the droids, Alec Guinnes's expressions are so ambiguous that it's quite easy to read him recognizing the droids into it.

G. Blue milk for everyone (Owen, Beru and Luke) at the evening meal: must taste good!
I've always found all of the food in this episode very interesting...especially in the scene where we see Beru sliding bits of some sort of vegetable into boiling water. You have to wonder, what's the name of the vegetable? What dish is she making? The possibilites are endless....

Yeah, and it sorta bothers me how smudged up it is!

F: The Gonk droid runs away when the Jawas open the door to the sandcrawler!

Gonk rules!

I think he does. He just doesn't want to bring it up... he has other things on his mind...

And when he first meets Artoo (after Luke is attacked), he says "Well hello there my little friend, don't be afraid!".... he knows... :D

Actually, he says.. "Hello there. Come here my little friend, don't be afraid!"

You get the idea. :D

Nice thoughts!

Character development I guess - he becomes more patient and menacing through the movies.

What I want to know is why R2 never tells Luke that Vader is his dad - even if he was never directly told in the PT (well maybe in the book?), I know that he knows. I guess he was just being a good little droid and following Obi-Wan's lead. :D

Ha! I'll have to go check that out! :D

I know what you mean, but the other bloggers are right - he recognized them and subtly lets us know that. He kept that a secret just like about how DV was Luke's dad and Leia was his sister.

Cool observations!

I always assumed that C3PO did not know what type of ship he was on, and when the escape pod ejected he saw the Star Destroyer, thinking that was the ship he was on. As the Star Destroyer had no (or little to none) damage..."That's funny, the damage doesn't seem so bad from out here." (compared to the amount of noise and alarm warnings that were going off just before C3PO escaped).

I find stuff out like that to. Here is one for example

in "Lego Star wars 1"

why in episode 3 do they play episode 4 music?
