The Must-Have of every SW fan: The New Essential Chronology
First of all I must state that I tend to have problems to find SW books, any kind of SW books in any book shop over here, I have complained about it more than once in my blogs, and only recently I have been I have decided to start getting my SW EU through Amazon.com. But, the way I got the NEC is far more interesting that just clicking one button online...

I had a friend living in Paris, and last January went to visit her, stayed at her house and she and her bf showed me around, not only the monuments and museums but also we did some shopping. They took me to this shop knowing that I'm a SW fan and knowing I'd love to take a look at it... Huge shop where I managed to finally decide to pick up the "New Essential Chronology". I realized that there was no way to get the book into my suitcase without damaging it somehow (I had done quite some shopping already), so I asked my friend to keep it and take it back to Spain with her when she moved back here. That was last week... So finally last week I had the NEC in my hands; at the same time that I was about to start the Thrawn trilogy... One piece of advice, never try to start two very addictive readings at the same time... I've been switching from the NEC to the Thrawn books since last Thursday... and I finally finished reading the NEC today.

Not only is a great tool to help you check any doubts you may have about timeline or when did what happen, also, if it's been a while since you read some stuff mentioned in one book series, you can check whatever incident it's been referred to in a very short time. It's a history book, well structured and with some wonderful illustrations btw...

And it will also prove helpful if you have to choose what EU you want to read or not... If the summary of what's going on in there from the NEC doesn't attract you enough to read the books, you will always know enough of what happened when you find references in other books...

All in all... I absolutely love it! And it was worth the wait. :D

At the moment I am making my own journey through the EU, starting from just before TPM. I thought about getting the NEC, but haven't yet. You make it obvious that I really should. I'll just skip the EU parts I still have to read about.

I've thought about getting the NEC, but I'm worried that it will spoil all the books I haven't read yet. Is it possible to flip through the NEC without learning the ending of every book. I'm afraid to even pick it up in the store.

I got it. I thought it was great. I doesn't give details so I really saw no chance of spoiling any books. I just gives a general overview and the players involved, nothing specific as to exact feelings or types of ships etc.

That's great you're enjoying the NEC so much. I thought it had some great artwork in it also. And have fun with the Thrawn Trilogy, those were my favorite EU novels :)

I haven't had time to finish NEC but I will affirm that it is a great book to have! All I could say while reading or flipping through it is "This is so cool! This is so neat!" Hats off to the author! Even if you don't read the novels, this is a great must have book! It is certainly ESSENTIAL TO HAVE!

I have shunned the NEC because in the last edition, it said in the biography of Jaina Solo that Mara became her "surrogate mother" during the NJO. I found that insulting not just to Leia, but to mothers in general. That...woman was never anything approaching a mother, surrogate or otherwise, to Jaina.

I'm contemplating getting the NEC ;) Just in the midst of figuring out whether or not it's worth it. I'm reading my way through all the books, so hope I'm hoping there aren't many spoilers in there

I have this book and I think it is very interesting and usuful: reading the most import events of the Star Wars Galaxy history in about 230 pages is simply what every fan has always wanted!

If the summary of what's going on in there from the NEC doesn't attrack you enough to read the books, you will always know enough of what happened when you find references in other books...

I think you mean "attract", not "attrack". :) By the way, feel free to delete my response after you've corrected the spelling.
