This book was a long-time desired one for me. First I heard about it in the SWShop.com newsletter. And then I was able to thumb through it in a bookshop in Paris... and fell in love with it!
It took a while for me to get hold of the book, since I couldn't carry it with me (full suitcase and all that) and then I had to wait for my friend to come back from Paris to bring it to me, but it was worth all the wait.
First of all, a warning, if you are not remotedly interested in the costumes seen in the movies... This is clearly not the book for you. But if you were awed by the amount of costumes, and the detail and handcrafting but in every single one of them... You'd love this book as much as I do!
The book is written by Trisha Biggar, the woman that made all the magic of the Prequel Trilogy's costumes possible. It's divided in six chapters; Chapter One: Jedi vs. Sith; Chapter Two: Royalty; Chapter Three: Military Wear; Chapter Four: The Galactic Senate; Chapter Five: Slaves, Rogues and Bounty Hunters, and finally Chapter Six: Padmé's Journey.
In each chapter we get descriptions of the different outfits, details about the designing, the threads used to make it... and amazing photographs of the costumes and some of the details in each of them.
The quality of the costumes is amazing, and shown in every one of the photographs...
The main focus is, obviously in the Prequel Trilogy costumes, but there are also little refences throughout the pages to costumes of the Original Trilogy, and at the back of the book, there's a... we could call it a "guide" with a small picture of every single costume that appeared in the Star Wars Saga.
A wonderful book that I don't get tired of reading and thumbing through, marvelling at the talent of the people that created those pieces of art.
