The Force Unleashed: To be, or not to be?
Greetings, everyone! :D

SOS15 here to write about the many mysteries of the Star Wars universe. This week I'm going to focus on the upcoming Lucasarts video game, The Force Unleashed. With it's recent takeover of the fan base, I think it's the perfect time to discuss it and its future.

Much like my Kotor 3 entry, I will make sure to link to articles and discussions I base my thoughts off of.

Let's kick things of with the basics: What, when, how, and why?

The Force Unleashed, originally reveled in 2006 in under the name "Force Pre-Vis," is a third-person action video game set in the time period between Episode III and Episode IV. You, as some of you probably know, play as the Vader's "Secret Apprentice" as you hunt down the last of the Jedi. You will meet a series of interesting characters, experience ever-changing environments, and feel the force like never before. That's pretty much the "what" of TFU. For much more detail, visit this very cool fan site centered all around the game.

You may be thinking, "Wow! That seems really, really cool. When can I get is?" Yeah, we all are. Lucasarts has never been big on public relations and TFU certainly didn't change that. Currently, the game is slated for an Summer 2008 release, most likely around July 29, 2008. That date has not been confirmed; actually, only seasons have been confirmed for the game, while the rest of the mass media project's items are all slated for June or July release dates. Hopefully, as we get closer, we'll get an official release date, but July 29, 2008 seems nice, considering it was suppose to be the event of 2007, and has been pushed back a few times.

With the when, you might be wondering how Lucasarts is creating their first ever next-gen game. Well, it wasn't easy, I can assure you that. From the web documentaries it seems that the story has been something they've been thinking about since 05'/06.' The graphics of the game, however, are much more complex than the story. For the first time ever, three unique systems, for lack of a better word, are being use together: Havoc, DMM, and Euphoria. Now, I can't begin to explain them in detail, but I can point you into the direction of who can; you can find three information demos here, and a behind the tech video there as well.

Lastly, why is Lucasarts making this game? Better yet, will it ever come out!? Well, to the latter, yes, of course. Games, books, entertainment items in general, get bushed back all the time for different reasons. To the former, I can't really answer that officially, but from my point of view, it's for many reasons. The main reason for me, however, is allowing us to feel SW, to feel the power of what we were first introduced to, more than 30 years ago. Anyone who says LA doesn't care will probably changed their mind after seeing this game, but that's for a different entry.

I do think The Force Unleashed has a lot riding on it, and hopefully it can carry and deliver. Only time can tell us that.

Alright, I have to finish writing my interview questions for John Jackson Miller and a few other things so I'll let you bring up your own musings on the subject.

Until next time, fellow bloggers and fans.

SOS15, signing off.

DOn't forget, this isn't just a game. There is a novel, comic, and toy figure line coming out for this game as well. This is similar to Shadows of the Empire.

I can't wait. I'll probably buy a next gen console to get the full experience of this game.

Beyond well aware of that; In fact, I mentioned that the other items are coming out in June and July. I loved SOTE, so hopefully this will live up to it.

Either way is fun to me ;) Also, you don't have to stay a Sith...

This is a great entry, SOS15. It sums the game up well.

I think the three systems look absolutely revolutionary. Think of how much fun you could have just hanging stormtroopers upside-down!

That's what I thought at first. But they say that its plot will be a story of redemption, so who knows... Vader might be the final boss! Besides, you get to battle lots of stormtroopers, and who doesn't love that?

Thank you, Green Am I; I do try ;)

But they say that its plot will be a story of redemption

Yep. I'm looking forward to playing the game all ways, as well as reading all the information.

Ah, that sounds much better! :D

Of course I don't have a game console.... might have to share with the Grandkids...

Well, it's nice to know that it's going to be on the Wii. (Yes, it is going to be on the Wii; the site said so.)

But there are some things Gahmah has to worry about with this version, and it has to with to do with the mistakes most 3rd Party developers are making with this console.

1) Controls - They said you control the force with the nunchuk. The problem is the nunchuk doesn't have a pointer. I think it would be best if your tossing someone, the remote works in as well. (Metroid Prime 3: Corruption did so when interfacing with mechanisms) We don't want to abuse the controls either, and this was originally intended to just be a game for normal controllers, and the Wii owners made up of both casual and veteran gamers.

2) Graphics - Most 3rd parties have underestimated its graphical capabilities and have slapped on titles with last-gen graphics. Trust me, the Wii can handle better than that. I'm aware that it can't compare to the Xbox 360 and PS3, but do we have to go with PS2 graphics? Games like Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl look better than that graphic-wise, and they can work smoothely at framerates of 60 fps. LA could them improve them a little bit, because any excuses that the Wii can't handle "next-gen" graphics are just this: bullcrap.

Other than that stuff, it should be an interesting game. Let's just hope the Wii version blow over because of that stuff.

To be honest, Gahmah's more excited about Super Smash Bros. Brawl than any other game on the Wii at this moment. Maybe Gahmah will get more excited when TFU gets closer to release date.

P.S. Don't worry about Gahmah stopping with the drawings, even now that my gas-mask-bearing (see old avatar in blog) days are over.

Great entry! Thanks again for all your hard work keeping the information coming on the game. I am really looking forward to the game myself. One area I have not heard a thing about is online game play. Perhaps that greatest part of Halo is the online experience. A quality game with great online play could really make an impact. Isn't the next best thing to playing a powerful force user like the Secret Apprentice kicking your friends butt? :)

Thanks, CB. :D You can learn all your facts and such about the upcoming game, comic and novel here.

I have not heard a thing about is online game play.

I hadn't for a long time, but it will have multi-player capabilities. According to Amazon's cover it will also have Xbox LIVE support, which is great.

I think so ;) This whole game makes me feel nostalgic and it brings me back to 02'/03' with JO & JA.
