Why the world needs Kotor III
Hey everyone! SOS15 here for another weekly look at the huge and mysterious world of the Star Wars galaxy. Last week, because of the SW: TCW announcement, I didn't get to blog about a subject that is really interesting to me: Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic III. With recent rumors cropping up and then being pushed down, what better way to help get it all than hearing it from an EU fan?

Since 2005, maybe even December 25, 2004, video game fans have yearned for a third installment to the Knights Of The Old Republic series. I personally felt good about the announcement of the Kotor comics in 06' because I thought it would give us hope for a third game.

Fast-forward to February 13, 2008. The internet community is at the edge of its seats; EA games, which now owns Bioware Corp. (who made the original Kotor title), has let out an Analyst report for its stock holders. Why do Kotor fans care? Listed under Bioware was "Kotor." This got people thinking that it meant Kotor 3.

I'll admit, I did think it for a little bit. However, later that day, when do research and stuff for EU Cantina, I realized that 1.) It said "Kotor," not Kotor III and 2.) All the games, save on, had already been released. Thanks to EA, and Bioware, we quickly learned that it was Kotor and Bioware was not making Kotor 3.

Two days later, LA stated that what they were working on " has nothing to do with Knights of the Old Republic."

To be honest, I wasn't surprised nor was I saddened. I actually think, as I've said, Obsidian will be making Kotor 3, which brings me to my main thought: Why the world needs Kotor III.

I often scour the internet looking for good, nostalgic fan sites for older games, like Kotor and JO. It always stuns me that Kotor is in every major forum and being discussed through pages and pages. Even Bioware's forums still have people discussing original game. This fact alone proves, to me anyway, that a Knights III must be made, and must be made soon.

I also have it for PC and Xbox, so recently I decided to check out some mods for it. When I went to download mods, the sheer amount of active, well done mods made me want a Kotor 3 very badly. All the mods made me remember the summer nights I spent playing Kotor, listening to the music of Dantooine as a warm breeze came through my room's window.

I just read that, in Game Informer, Kotor 3 is the # 1 most anticipated game, with a 85% percent chance of it being made. Who will make it? I do think Obsidian, who is looking for game designers for upcoming console role-playing game.

The fan-base is very strong, and I think Lucasarts knows this. TFU has been under production since 2004, according to Haden Blackman in a recent interview, which would account for why we haven't heard anything about Kotor III.

The point of this blog is simply this: If we wait a few years, I'm thinking that LA will make good on it's saying that Kotor will not be forgotten. The world perhaps doesn't need Kotor 3, but fans certainly do to finish the story, feel the fun, and experience what, to me, is one of the greatest parts of SW.

That's it for me this week, fellow fans. I hope I didn't confuse or jumble up your thoughts.

Until next week,

SOS15-signing off.
