Well, hello there, everyone!
SOS15 here to blog about the man mysteries of the huge and unique
Star Wars universe. I was talking to my friend, and a thought for a blog came to mind: What goes on in the minds of SW fans? Vague, I know, but let me explain. I often think to myself, "Why do fans only say 'That's nice, but could be better' for something great, but when it's a little bad, or not up to par, they go insane? Let's examine it, shall we?
As an author, or anyone working for
Star Wars really, you have a huge job in you hands; the movies, previous EU works, etc. Nobody's perfect, and authors certainly aren't infallible.
Try as they may, authors won't always hit the continuity spot-on. Personally, I think they are doing a great job, but continuity is something that bothers many veteran EU fans and intimidates new fans; it shouldn't.
So, why do fans always pay little attention to the good, but attack the little off EU items? Well, part of it really does have to do with human nature itself. Think about it: If you really like something you might rant on for a little while about it, but, after time, slowly forget about it.
This is unlike something we dislike though; if we dislike something someone says, or even does, we often have feeling of negativity when we see that person. They could be great, but that one act sticks with us. The same goes for works in SW universe.
As fans, and I'm certainly guilty of this, we often overlook the good and really press the moderately bad. Not only that, we also are very stubborn.
That, also, can be attributed to human nature. Prime example: Bioware has said for awhile now that it has no interest in making Kotor 3. Does that detour the Kotor-Bioware faithful? Nope. People are convinced it's a cover-up, and truthfully, I love how something like a SW video game can stir that up.
The mind of a human is complicated, and a that of a SW fan is so much more.
What have we learned, class? Well, it seems that SW fans often overlook the good, but seems to hype up the bad. Also, SW fans have very sturdy beliefs, but that's what makes them a fascinating and unique community.
The whole point of this blog was the show you, however slightly, how the fans think.. kinda....I could go much longer and in dept, but that would probably be very boring, so I'll stick to the stuff that's actually interesting.
Until next week, fellow bloggers!
SOS15-Signing off.
