 | Thoughts on The Force Unleashed Demo |
Greetings, fellow fans and bloggers! SOS15 here, as promised, to discuss the recently released demo for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
Now, I want to start off saying that I played the demo on a PS3 and I have a 360. I also want to say that I have had huge faith in this game from the start, and I think this demo tells me exactly, as well as others who weren't so sure. I'm not going to tell you exactly what you do, as I'm sure you know by now, but it starts with the well-known (infamous?) cut-scene between Vader's secret apprentice, Starkiller, talking with Vader about getting his first assignment: Track down and kill the Jedi General Rahm Kota on an orbital Tie Fighter Construction Facility (try saying that ten times fast) around the moon of Nar Shadaa.
This is where we get the full felling on how Vader, Starkiller, and after the cut-scene, Juno sound and how the dialogue is done. I, personally, didn't like the subtitles so I turned them off, but those can be kept on or turned off. All of the characters looked amazing and Sam Witwer (Starkiller) and Matt Solan (Vader) sound awesome. Mr. Solan's interpretation of Vader will take awhile to get use to, but I'm sure SW fans will be able to adjust quickly and enjoy it.
You are then dropped off by your pilot, and future love interest, Captain Juno Eclipse, at the facility. Juno has a role, it seems, similar to the Adviser in Republic Commando : Tell you information about your mission and help you. This is when the true unleashing fun begins. I begun by Force pushing a droid into a canister, blowing up both things and sending pieces of junk everywhere. The real action started right after you blew open the door to the hanger where General Kota's militia men were fighting the Imperials. I decided I would use the most destructive route possible and sent a force push and then lighting to two TIE Fighters, sending both into the soldiers below. Jumping down from the catwalk I then preceded to test the volley of moves and powers you are given; my favorite happens to be Sith Saber Smash, the combination of a saber smash with Force Lighting to extend it.
The epic fighting takes you to your final battle: An AT-ST surrounded by Stormtroopers, who are easy to take care of. After a series of slashing and Force Lighting, you can take the giant Imperial monster down enough to activate the final button moves; you press a button, the Apprentice does a move. Three button moves, quick enough mind you, and you finish the metal beast. If you don't press the button quick enough, or hit the wrong one, you are shot down and you must start again. Tricky, but fun to watch the results.
Overall, I really, really enjoyed the demo of The Force Unleashed. The graphics were gorgeous, the gameplay was easy flowing and amazingly fun, and it was just enjoyable all-around. Honestly though, who doesn't enjoy throwing a Stormtrooper hundreds of feet and then being rewarded for it? This demo pumped me up for the game, and I can't wait until next month! If you haven't checked out the demo and you can, DO IT!
Until next time my friends,
SOS15

Well, there goes my blog idea. You completely laid out all my thoughts just like that! I agree with you all the way, SOS15. I myself was pleasantly surprised, and I eagerly await its release. I just hope the story turns out good... looks pretty good so far, but you never know.
I especially love lifting a stormtrooper up with the Force, dragging him along the ground, and then slamming him into a bunch of other troopers. Imperial bowling!

Have you been able to play the demo yet?
The day it was available, I jumped at the opportunity, and have not been disappointed for one second!!! It was phenomenal, the most extraordinary gaming experience ever!
After a while, I started to get this sort of sick pleasure from hurling stormies all over the place, trying to see if I could figure out some new way of annihilating them each time.
I have been counting down for the Force knows how long, and I cannot believe it's almost here!
But why does it have to come out during the school year????!!!!

Whoa, I don't know about that... have you ever played Ocarina of Time? Okay, seriously, I won't nitpick. TFU was most definitely awesome either way.

Same with me. Have you tried getting a string of troopers to hold onto each other and then dangle them over a pit? I know I've gotten at least two or three at once...

I have a way of doing that I read some of the graphic novel, and let me tell you, the story seems to be ever bit of amazing they said it would be.

Ever? It was pretty close for me, but nothing will beat seeing Dantooine for the first time in Kotor..at least for me.

I got a little bored, but we'll get through that level with ease in the real game. I leveled up force push twice, and let me tell you: THAT was fun.

I played it on PS3 also, like 2 or 3 times. LOL, I was up at midnight on the 21st to see if it was up yet (wasn't until afternoon on PS3). I have it on my 360, but haven't played it yet there (too busy with Ninja Gaiden II). I found more things after playing it again, like getting awarded abilities, and using those red glowy pyramid thingies. You know since this is the demo, there will be a ton more even in this section for the full game. I have to say, one of my favorite things was blowing out the windows in the station and having the sheilds come smashing down. Fun

BTW - I hope they make trophies for this on PS3! That'll be my platform of choice for this, but I'll get it for PSP too for the classic trilogy missions.

I did that countless times, and one time I almost got knocked out by a canister once. Good times, good times I loved impaling people and then force pushing them.

Yep, trophies will be added in an update for the PS3, as TFU was done before the PS3 updated with the Trophies system.

The one thing I didn't like about that addition was that everything was pulled out except Starkiller... it would've been cool if he at least struggled a little to stay on his feet. But it's not a big complaint, and who knows? Maybe he's using some kind of Force trick.

Well, he did change his stance for me a few times after that, but he does get pulled, as I said. I was surprised I didn't get thrown out of the window, but I wasn't upset about it.

I hope so. Do you have a confirmation on a definite future update? Last I heard, a LA spokesperson said it would not be supporting PS3 trophies, but that doesn't mean they can't update for it. If they don't (and XBL gets achievements) I'll be a little ripped. I could get it for the 360, but I don't wanna!

It was a nice effect how his clothes really blew around in the wind, though.
Is anyone going to try and buy it at midnight?
Probably not... I'll just order it online and play it when it arrives.
I do know that XBL has achievements, quite a few actually.
Achievement Points! WOO-HOO!!!!!! Oh, uh, sorry. I really like Achievement Points... Though PS3 Trophies sound really cool too.

Indeed; I also liked how he looked just standing straight with his lightsaber hanging off his belt-- felt like Star Wars.

Based on the demo, I think I'm going to head over to Best Buy after school and work and grab a copy to hopefully play that do or on the weekend.

We loved the demo and played it numerous times. Each time we tried new ways to wreak havoc. We love how you can shatter the windows causing the atmosphere to get sucked out along with any droids and debrie in the vacinity. We haven't tried strining troopers together yet. But we did lift a trooper into the path of a Tie-Fighter...that was sickenly plesant. Currently reading the book and the story is awesome. Can't wait til the 16th.
