Silver Blue & Gold
I have posted here in the past some photos of my toy room. The 10' x 9' (or smaller) room also doubles as my studio and it also holds my computer desk among other junk. It goes without saying that it is a bit disorganized and hard to really see what all is there. I have decided to reshow my collection as well as new aquisitions in a new series of blogs dedicating each one to a specific character or topic within said collection. This way I can set them up seperate from the room so it is easier to see what is there and can say something about them without overloading you folks out there in SW Blogdom. ;)

My first installment will be on our favorite Droid Dynamic Duo. They were the comic relief glue that held the movie together for most of us younglings of the 70's & 80's. This is not to say the space battles, lasers, lightsabers, magic, princesses, heros and cool villans did not have its own part in making it a success, but there is a reason Lucas put them in as two of the first major characters in the movie. Children empathized with this Laurel & Hardyesque team. Their simple nature and humor made the headiness of the overall concept of Star Wars acceptable to young minds. Who didn't feel the "Oh No!" factor when they were captured by Jawas or when R2 is shot by Vader in the Death Star trench, and the subsequent joy when R2 toddles out during the award ceremony. This made them the obvious choice when I bought my first Kenner action figures. R2-D2 was my first action figure and C-3P0 was among my first four. They are still two of my favorite characters to collect.

This photo shows close up of my R2's. My first is the one to the right of the R2 with sensor scope. It has a repro decal now. The only one with an intact decal is the one with sensor scope.

Other R2's shown include the two RotS figures (jets with battle droidparts & sound effect version), the muddy Dagobah version with sound effects, the PM version with jets and comtech chip, a version with retractable arm and attachable saw blade, a version with attachable arm and 3rd leg with retractable sensor scope, Comic book version, old sound effect style ornament and this years with jawa, the BK squirting version, a 12" sail barge figure with Leia in Slave Girl outfit bought from FAO Shwartz, a tatooine version sold the year after PM, and a version with a holographic Princess Leia included. Some others are an OT remote control R2 that still mostly works and beside that a ceramic nightlight my mother made for in a ceramics class. Plus a drink cup from Burger King or Mapco Express (I can't remember) shaped like R2 can be seen.

My first C-3P0 did not fare better and it ended up chopped in half I think in an attempt to attach it to a pinewood derby car. It had faded silver by that point and didn't see any point in keeping it at the time since I had others. It can be seen in this photo next to my other original 3P0's. The oldest one still in good condition was my second one given to me in 1979. Next to it is my third of these which was the C3P0 with detachable limbs and net to be carried by the Chewbacca figure.

Other version shown are a couple of Tatooine C-3P0's, a recent buy with Stooge figure, the McQuarrie figures, an Ewok god version, the RotS early bird figure, RotS Mustafar figure, a AotC battle droid head switch figure, a PotF muscle version, the PM version, a key chain, a BK figure, Halmark ornaments, and my OT figure case.

Also showing was a picture of a R2 & 3P0 Puzzle from 1978 or 9 that belonged to an uncle of mine originally. I had always secretly wanted it and he gave me it along with an Escape from the Death Star board game a few years ago. Another obscure item is an SW Question & Answer Book About Space book featuring or droid friends as guides.

Hope you all enjoyed this first batch of items. Join me next time where I will feature my Darth Vader related items. I will also try to complete some other blog subjects if I get around to it in the near future. I also will let you see pics of me in my new Jedi costume just completed today by one of the ladies here at work.

Catch you later!
