Personality Survey: Grand Admiral Sean
Good morning, everyone! In classic authorial style, I seem to be a day late. In any case, I have a philosophical entry planned for next week: "The Potentium Paradox: Can Yoda and Vergere Agree?" For now, I have decided to do one of those fun, little personality surveys rivethead transmitted to the community via Rogueish, Brooklooine and a few others.

I've never done this before, but...

Full name: Mits'ea'nuruodo

Rank: Grand Admiral

Affiliation: T.D.F., in the service of His Majesty Emperor Seeher (old B.C.a.T. Forum hands will get this...)

Level: Invincible!

Favorite Saga movies: Episodes VI and III

Subtly wave my fingers every time I approach an automatic door? Not that I'm going to confess.

Age before discovering that the Fox drumroll plays before other movies? Wait, what?!

Occupation: Wannabe novelist (the first novel was rejected...but I plan to have the second completed and edited by May!)

When I'm not writing, I'm... Reading, sketching, fencing foil, hiking (did my first Fourteener this year!)

Lightsaber Form? Ideally, Makashi or Ataru. Realistically, probably Soresu

Best advice ever given me? Hiking Mount Paiute, my mentor and I were spider-walking across some jagged rocks. He saw me looking down into a ravine, and, knowing my inexperience and nervous personality, called, "Sean! I have rock-climbing advice!"

Of course, I very badly wanted to acquire his wisdom. It turned out to be, "Don't fall!" -- advice which has never failed me since.

Personality: Type-A obsessive-compulsive wimp. On the same hike I mentioned above, we were in the midst of our final ascent when I pointed and cried in delight, "Oh, look at that pretty cloud!" My mentor slowly rounded with the air of a D.I. being asked about his Hello Kitty pajamas, and said somberly, "Sean, let's hope those pretty clouds of yours hold off 'til we're down!"

Official diagnosis: Asperger's Syndrome

Cool autistic attributes: My memory verges on eidetic (it took me fifteen, twenty minutes to lay Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "Kubla Kahn" to heart), and I can hear *slightly* into the ultrasonic. On the bright side, I always know when lightbulbs need replacement. On the dark side, my computer whines at all hours of the night even when deactivated and security readers drive me insane.

Once in junior high, during a confirmation class at my church, I heard a high-pitched sound and opened a nearby closet to find an electronic device affixed to the rafters. I quickly informed the pastor that there was a bomb in the church.

His response? "Don't worry, it's just an electronic rat repellant, but humans can't hear it except at close range, anyways -- only lesser animals. Drives the rats nuts, though."

Oh, also, if I concentrate really hard, I can telekinetically explode pimples. Seriously.

Weirdest encounters with "normal" people? A woman asked if she could hug me. "Actually," I explained uncomfortably, "I'm autistic." She was quite cheerful about it: "Oh, don't worry, I don't mind!"

People I'd prevent from reproducing if I were a eugenicist: See above.

First encounter with Star Wars: My friend in the first grade brought this clunky-looking plastic starship to school. I said, "What is that piece of junk?" He answered, "Oh, man, you have to see this movie Star Wars!" By the end of the year, I had surpassed him in Star Wars knowledge, tremendously annoying everyone else on the playground in the process ("No! Luke doesn't take Obi-Wan's lightsaber. Luke has his father's lightsaber, and Obi-Wan's got lost on the Death Star when Vader killed him. And his real name isn't Ben, it's Obi-Wan. Don't you guys pay any attention?"). I was, eventually, voted off the island. But that I was okay with me, because it's so hard to play with people who can't tell the different between a TIE-X1 and a TIE-Interceptor.

Coolest real-life Star Wars moment? At Celebration III, I got to stand in full Thrawn regalia and ask Nick Gillard a question. I inquired if he'd created all Seven Forms of lightsaber dueling, and he responded, understandably nonplussed, "Well, I didn't know about that. I just made the one."

But the real compliment came after I returned to my seat: Jay Laga'aia, the Master of Ceremonies, intoned drolly, "You have to love any venue where a young man like that can get up with a blue face and no-one so much as flinches."

Most embarrassing Star Wars admission: Well, once a week, one of the kids got to perform the librarian's duties and check everyone else's books out. And I thought the scan stick looked amazingly like a lightsaber, so...

Creed: Seventh-Day Adventist Christian. I like my church because our beliefs are not decided by committee; we try to stay fast to the Bible rather than "What the pastor says!"

One-line theology: It has been argued that God cannot exist because one cannot categorically prove His existence on a non-empirical basis. However, on a purely non-empirical basis, one cannot categorically disprove that I am a walrus. That doesn't make it a valid argument. :p

Seminal writing influences: George Lucas (well, duh!), Kevin J. Anderson, Rebecca Moesta, J. Gregory Keyes (Children of the Changeling fans still insist on calling him that!), Brian Jacques, John Steinbeck, C.S. Lewis, T.A. Barron, James Luceno, Dean Koontz, James Kahn, William Shakespeare, J.K. Rowling, Alan Moore, Kathy Tyers. I'm not afraid to admit that I'm heavily influenced by media, commercial, and children's writers! :D Take that, elitist literati! :p

I read... Voraciously! Though sometimes, -- as now -- my own writing schedule prohibits me from spending the time I'd like with my nose in the pages. But I'd rather publish my own books and read everyone else's later.

Favorite original novels: Of Fire and Night; The Briar King; Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire; The Lost Years of Merlin; The Temptest; V for Vendetta; Blindfold; Out of the Silent Planet; Perelandra; Captain Nemo; The Trinity Paradox; and Sometimes the Magic Works (okay, technically not a novel, but useful, anyhow)

Favorite Star Wars novels: Darksaber (which is one of the novels that's most influenced my style, in- or outside of Star Wars. If you detest it, I encourage you to reread it just for the descriptions. Classic, even for a media tie-in); I, Jedi; Junior Jedi Knights; Young Jedi Knights; Edge of Victory; Jedi Academy Trilogy; Cloak of Deception; The Truce at Bakura; Rogue Planet; Darkness; Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith, The Sith War, Redemption; Droids: Rebellion; Starfighter: Crossbones; Clone Wars: Volumes III, IV, VII, VIII, and IX; Jedi versus Sith; Knights of the Old Republic: Commencement; X-Wing: Rogue Squadron: Iron First, Solo Command; Republic Commando: Triple Zero; Shadow Stalker; Chewbacca; Union; The Jabba Tape; Starcrash...so, in other words, basically everthing! :)

If I was an alien, I'd probably be... Chadra-Fan. No question.

Cases of life imitating Star Wars: I've already blogged about my J.J.K. epiphany. Perhaps sometime soon I'll edit and reload that entry...

If I was a starship, I'd probably be... Millenium Falcon: break down on a regular basis...

If I could have one Force-empowered object, it would be...: K'kruhk's hat.

My lightsaber is... Probably green; before the release of the Prequels, my friends and I had this theory that you could only get your green saber after you became a master, like Luke in Return or Qui-Gon in Phantom -- a postulate we maintained until Episode II. Alternately, purple, like Anakin Solo's. Do you want to take issue with that? ]:)

Trivial pursuit: Starship statistics and weapon makes.

Number of point-defense laser cannons on a Venator-Class Star Destroyer? Fifty-two.

Younglings think I'm a... Jungle-gym. *Sigh*

Favorite collectible: I'm not much of a collector, though several Titanium Cast ships do ornament my windowsill. And I certainly prize my signed copies of Shadows of the Empire, The New Rebellion, The Courtship of Princess Leia, Heir to the Empire, The Last Command, Darksaber, The Illustrated Star Wars Universe, and The Final Prophecy (the last was actually signed by Shelly Shapiro, not Greg Keyes). Plus, -- and I'm not quite sure if this counts -- the daughter of one of my friends looks a lot like Rain from Jedi versus Sith... No, I'm not auctioning her!

I'm anti-materialist, but... Someday, I will drive to Eric Lee's house and BUY THIS PICTURE!! :D ]:)

Best of Hyperspace: Cool new friends like JediPrincess, Brooklooine Ghost, jkthunder, YodaBud, D.J. Maul, and everyone else in the blogosphere!

Opinions on Celebration IV? Only the prelude to Celebration V! See you there!

Force be,
~The Admiral

"Don't fall!"
Sound advice!

"Sean, let's hope those pretty clouds of yours hold off 'til we're down!" :D

Yours or someone else's?

Age before discovering that the Fox drumroll plays before other movies?
It always takes a few seconds after the fanfare has ended and the movie has begun that I remeber that I'm not watching Star Wars. "Oh wait, this isn't Star Wars..."

Interesting blog.

Subtly wave my fingers every time I approach an automatic door? I'm guilty.:D

My computer whines at all hours of the night, even when deactivated.
That drives me crazy too.

Let me know how the novel thing is going. I'd love to read it.:)

P.S. It's official, I'm going to Celebration IV! See you there!

Am I allowed to ask what these novels are about?
Well, I'd prefer not to brag until the thing's actually accomplished.

Yours or someone else's?
Depends on range.

You're a WALRUS?!
[Paul McCartney] I am the walrus. [/Paul McCartney]

Coolio; I fence sabre and can't parry diddly.
Lucky! Saber fencers can actually swing at people Star Wars-style instead of just lunging! I'm fine with all the forms until I'm in an actual match... :|

This is perhaps the most interesting and entertaining personality survey I'e read. Aw - Thanx for the shout out.

Maybe the second best advice you could get, to amend the first place winner, is to learn to fall in a safe environment before hand. Of course I realize there wasn't an opportunity for that during your climb. If it's free climbing true vertical you're talking about... yeah, "don't fall" really is the best advice :p

Can't wait to see you published - 'cos I know you will be. :)

K'kruhk's hat.
Gotta like those hats.

People I'd prevent from reproducing if I were a eugenicist:
Um...........not these guys/gals (What? They scream like girls, so it's hard to tell what gender any of them once were.). Not only are they undead, rotting corpses, but.......they're icky! (if you played OoT, you know what Gahmah means).

Saber fencers can actually swing at people Star Wars-style instead of just lunging!
"Star Wars-style?" More like, attack the flank when the instructor says "THREE!" and attack the head when he says "FIVE!" But I guess that's how all the little younglings started out...

Thank God for fencing masks!

Very neat! I think I'll steal this survey later tonight.

However, on a purely non-empirical basis, one cannot categorically disprove that I am a walrus.

Why, that means you must be ... John!?! No, Paul ... no, John...

Glad you enjoyed it, sir! Certainly, I've enjoyed your Insider articles. As long as your doing the stealing, I'll take it as a compliment of the highest order (and it's Paul, by the way ;)).

Speaking of high-order compliments...
Dunno how I missed this, but it was a hoot! Great work, dude!
Thanks, Stooge! You've been treating the rest of the community for months on end. Consider this entry a small repayment of your comedic brilliance. ;)

Ooh, a Starfighter: Crossbones fan! Starcrash? The Jabba Tape? I sometimes wonder if I'm the only person who remembers these....or if they're only in my imagination....or something. :) It's good to know I'm not the only one! (I'm still a bit curious why there was never a Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan trade paperback; I just re-read both of those stories, and they're pretty cool).

By the way....I saw a picture of you recently. :D And mentioned it in my blog. I hope that's okay with you.
