Halloween's coming. Zam it all!!!
In my early years of teaching I LOVED Halloween. I would spend the weeks building up to the fun-filled day dedicating all of my extra time and resources to the perfect costume.
Then, I had kids.
I no longer cared about preparing a costume for myself; I put all of my energy and enthusiasm into theirs precious little outfits. Now, they've gotten to the age where they like to work on their own costumes and they want me to dress up too. Since I've just returned to my teaching gig, I have no excuse for not donning a costume of some sort, other than I no longer have the kind of time or finances to focus on creating that perfect Halloween costume for myself.
I really, really, wanted to dress as Zam Wessel this year, since I found a funky little 'Zam' like hat, but I'm having a hard time finding the other pieces to complete the costume. I don't have the time, or the patience to sew the costume, so I guess Zam is out for this year. Zam it anyways!! The hat may end up being my entire costume this year. Who knows?

---------------------------------
Now my question for you is...
(Drum roll please.)

Do you have any interesting Star Wars related costume stories that you would care to share?

I'd love to hear from you. Don't be shy!
Oh, and thanks for stopping by.:D(Aw, that rhymed. Am I talented or what?)

Well, I don't have any successful Star Wars-related costume stories, but I have a few stories nonetheless. Many, many, many, many, many moons ago (I was mebbe 12 at the time), I spent weeks building a Boussh helmet and an R2-D2 outta papier mache and whatever I could find. They never made it outta the basement in time to wear, so mebbe that's not the best story...

Though, recently during the height of my costume-making hobby, I discovered the greatest costuming material ever: Duck Tape. With it, I was able to build an Alien xenomorph costume outta just duck tape and newspaper. Lemme see if I can find the pics...

Here we go...

The Alien's best pic.
Direct front view.
The back.

This was made over the course of a few weeks outta nothing but newspaper and duck tape. So, if you're having some issues with your Zam costume's materials, duck tape's an option. It's a great costuming material!

I've never had a Star Wars costume. Growing up with the saga in the seventies and eighties, I always wanted to be Princess Leia. Someday, I'd like to make her ANH outfit, posssibly followed by her Bespin outfit. I really liked the Bespin one. Oh, well. Maybe someday!!!

Loooooooooooove Halloween - now I get to live vicariously through my kids as well!

As far as my adventures....well, there was last Halloween when I took on the task of making Padme's Red Invasion outfit from TPM. It actually turned out quite well, if I do say so myself :p

Currently, I'm working on Aayla Secura. so far I have the inner and outer tops done, and I have the leggings and boots. Wish me well on the lekku!!! ;) I'm actually going to try and get into the Rebel Legion, not doing it so much for Halloween.

Zam would be soooooooo cool! I contemplated that one myself! Best of luck in your costuming adventures! :D

duck tape's an option
Um. I'm a total 'girly girl' when it comes to duck tape. By the time I roll out the amount I need and then I cut it, (Yes, cut it) the tape ends up stuck to just about everything EXCEPT what I want it to stick to.:) I'll have to introduce my boys to the wonders of duck tape and newspaper, maybe they will be able to help me out.
Thanks for the pic and the story.:D

Hey VG! I like your new 'invisible girl' look.;):^O
I have never done a SW costume for myself either, just for my two spoiled brats.;):D This year was going to be my first, but... Oh well, I can wear the hat and it can still be my first SW themed costume.

I really liked the Bespin one.
I love the Bespin dress too, but you know the one costume I have to do one day is the Endor camouflage poncho. I loved that the first moment I saw it!

Stories? Well...I have written about my adventures in SW costuming previously, the latest of which are here and here. I have essentially spent my summer sewing, and have finished several projects...updates to the Veranda nightgown; a re-do of the Mustafar outfit; Padme's Dressing Robe & Gown, navy dress, and "Leia Buns" cloak, all from ROTS; and Leia's Ewok Village Dress and Classic Senatorial Gown. :O

My next project will be a non-SW related costume for Halloween, and then the poncho Padme' wears on Tatooine in AOTC.

Best of luck to you!! Maybe you could start now on Zam's costume for next Halloween :)

I toyed with the idea once, but I usually stick to my insane-undead-zombie-mass-murderer costume. I tried to download the Grievous phrases that this site did a couple of years back but it didn't work.

I tell you what was funny. Last year, I put the pumpkins out, decorated my porch area, got it all spooky, cobwebs, skeletons, skulls, eerie music, torture sounds, got the fake blood and guts all ready to throw on people, polished my axe, got into my insane-undead-zombie-mass-murderer costume, etc etc...

...only to find that this country I'd moved to doesn't celebrate Halloween in the slightest.

Neighbours freaked out though.

I once was determined to get a Prequel Jedi Knight costume done by Halloween and I started in the beginning of the summer. Alas, I got distracted and never really finished it. All I had was the Jedi Robe. So I went trick-or-treating with just the robe and a lightsaber. It was unfortunate but I'm still so proud of the robe. I never finished the rest of the costume though...it's still on my to-do list...

The robe is the most important part--well that and the lightsabre!

Sorry I missed this one yesterday, Ketal!

So, Halloween, 2005..... I searched and searched for the Perfect Wife of Vader costume. I ended up with a Black and Red Gown with a black velvet choker and carried my red light-saber with me.

I heard every kid in the neighbourhood saying "look! a SW person.... I don't know who it is but, they have a lightsaber and look really Sith like".

Mission complete. That's my SW Costume Story. ]:)

Anakin pre-Hayden though. So yes, I'm gonna dress as little Ani, jump out from the shadows on trick or treaters and scream with my best blood curdling scream "Are you an angel?"

Last Halloween I was Darth Maul, and I don't like to brag, but it was flippin' sweet! Lots of people recognized that I was someone from Star Wars, but they couldn't remember the name. A lot of them just said, "Hey, there's...that guy!" I even had an awesome routine worked out with my Darth Maul FX lightsaber. Once, I did my routine in some wet grass and I slipped and fell, oops, but I got back up like it didn't hurt, "Yeah, I meant to do that." And of course, I got some candy; you're never too old for candy!

Anyway, I spent about two hours getting on all the makeup that I needed. After it was all over, my dad had to go to the grocery store. So there I was, face painted all red abd black, sitting in the passenger side of the truck. It was kinda weird. My brother was Obi-Wan. Everyone called him Luke. The year before that I was an old woman, yeah. This one guy told me not to flash anyone. :^O

Anyway, I dunno what I'm doing this year, I might be Napoleon Dynamite or something. There is a really great nerd costume that I have also. Hmmmmmmm...

May the Force be with us all! God bless!

I was a stormtrooper for Halloween when I was. . . like, five, maybe? Something like that. My dad went as Darth Vader that year. And here's a case of mistaken identity: You'd think that the neighbors would see a tall dude in a black helmet with a short kid in white and think stormtrooper, but nooooo, they see little me and say, "Are you a Power Ranger?"

*seethes, fumes, and otherwise gets that yellow-eyed Sith look from suppressed rage at these people's total lack of vision* And stormies pwn tacky Power Rangers!

Bah. The next year I was a princess in a purple dress.

Well, looks like I have me another blog entry to write then. ^^ "Trak's Duck Tape Costumes."

I cut my duck tape with scissors as well and have had it stick to everything but what I wanted it to stick to. But if you use it in small strips, it cooperates pretty well. For someome who works on a very small budget, it is one of the best and most-versatile costuming materials I've ever used. It's like papier mache, but not quite as messy.

I LOVE Halloween! Do try to make that Zam costume, that would be sweet! If not, you can always just wear the hat and that would look cool. Kinda like a 1970's person! :^O

When I was a kid, my favorite costume was my Darth Vader costume... the crappy generic plastic one in the box, with the flimsy rubber-band on the mask! It was so COOL! I actually had to wear it two years in a row, 'cause the one year I dressed as a mummy I became unraveled, and I had to go home and take it off and put on the Vader costume. Ha!

OMG, Nobby..that is TOO cool! LOVE the license plate, btw! ;)

Ok, so here is my costume from last year - I'm a high school teacher and this was taken at the dance I chaperoned. I made the hair out of fake cow-tail switches (yes, you heard me right) and some wire, and improved on a store-bought gown: my own "embriodery" work using glitter fabric paint, faux fur embellishments, velvet collar and satin arm covers. I had a blast, and it was a big hit :D

No, sadly I've never dressed up in a SW costume for Halloween. . .and honestly if I had a Star Wars costume, I would wear it all the time! Get up on a Saturday morning, shower, put on my costume. Sunday after church, come home, eat lunch, put on my costume. Before getting ready for bed, change into my costume and do a few little twirls in front of my mirror. . . . :D

Great blog entry :)

I had the Jedi robe made by a tailor. I selected the fabric and bought many feet of cloth to ensure greatest possible authenticity (the tailor did add pockets inside the robe for my Jedi wallet :) ). Lightsaber attached, beard neatly grown, I was ready.

A friend of mine, an Aikido student, chose Darth Maul. Although she didn't shave her head, she nailed the look perfectly, make-up, costume and all.

So off we went as mortal enemies to screenings of independent horror flicks. Confident, we strutted into the auditorium, my Jedi frown impeccable and her Sith sneer powerfully frightening...
