Half-minded thoughts on the Clone Wars movie
I didn't have high hopes for this movie when I went into the seat, a cartoon/CG hybrid. Can't say I was impressed by the look of it. But I must say, it definitely got more interesting by the minute.

Okay, when it started up I thought the regular crawl would commence, but when it didn't I was very surprised. It's definitely something new and unexpected. The graphic I originally thought would be distracting also quickly grew on me, and now I absolutely love it. But here's the thing - I still haven't gotten used to Ahsoka Tano being Anakin's apprentice. Call me whatever you want, but I never like it when girl-power goes overboard. The character is alright, don't get me wrong. But the problem I have is basically two things - Anakin wasn't a Knight at this time, but he doesn't appear to have a Padawan braid, but Ahsoka was assigned as his apprentice. How does that fit in with the other material, EU and movie? Padawans can't have Padawans! Unless I'm wrong about it and he's already a Knight of course, which wouldn't be too surprising as constant retcon of this era is the only way to keep it going.

Anyway, I didn't like Ahsoka's character until later in the film, when she calmed down a bit. I certainly hope the series gives more three dimensional perspective on her than the movie did. I originally hated the Vong but they grew on me, so I'll give her many chances as well. But one thing that bothers me. She drops in after Geonosis, fights alongside Kenobi and Anakin for months then suddenly is released from his charge shortly before the Battle of Coruscant? Will she be assigned to a new master when reaching Padawan? What about this - she's bound to die at the end of the war, so why introduce so young a character into a show marketed to children? Boggles the mind when you think about it. Ha!

Moving on, I absolutely loved that the Hutts were a central component to the plot. They haven't been included too much for a while, and so I'm very happy about their involvement. Ziro was funny to me, but he would have been better speaking Huttese. And no, he didn't appear gay-like to me at all - true gays aren't drag queens who act like little teen girls. A masculine Hutt gangster who's in touch with his feminine side? Surely a trend not too uncommon amongst hermaphrodites.

The locales, and Christophsis specifically, were amazingly well designed and fresh. Seeing Tatooine is always nice as well. The new Ventress is amazing - much better than from the animated series. Looks much more sinister, more in-line with Dooku and Sidious.

Okay, I wrote this tired and bored so it's pretty senseless. Bottom line - I enjoyed it, and anxious to see the series. Thanks for reading!
