Valentine's Day Is Just Around the Corner . . .
Alright, so I just finished reading Oliver Twist. *gasps, cheers, moans, etc.* A bit boring in the beginning, but I liked the later parts with the Maylies and Mr. Brownlow. And Mr. Grimwig is THE COOLEST OLD GUY EVER!! :^O Well, I had to write a paper on said novel, which I was in no way excited about. My excitement decreased even more when I realized AT THE LAST MINUTE that I had to change my topic because I couldn't find one of the examples my paper depended on. Yeah. So I've been freaking out for the last 48 hours or so, but I prayed, got a topic, and my paper is now complete!! :D Yay! What does this have to do will Star Wars? Here's what: while I was wracking my brain for topic ideas, I got the craziest idea to compare an Oliver Twist character with a character in a movie I like. Naturally (that is, DUH :^O), Star Wars came to mind! Now, that's not what I did for my paper, but it did give me the idea for this blog.

Two of the characters in the book, Rose Maylie and Harry Maylie, are in love. If you haven't read the book, you're probably wondering how this is since they both have the same last name. Well don't worry - this isn't Luke and Leia all over again! ;) Rose was orphaned as a child, and this nice old lady named Mrs. Maylie took her in and raised her as her niece. Harry was her son. Make sense? Cool. So they aren't related! But they fell in love, which made the book 10 times better IMO! :D :x (It also helped that I pictured Harry as James Franco because he played Harry in Spiderman.... :x :x :x )

"So if it isn't incest, what's the problem?" you ask. Well, Rose won't marry Harry because of a "stain on her name." Someone had lied and said she was an illegitimate child (which she wasn't). Harry is destined for greatness, and Rose doesn't want to hinder or shame him in any way! Isn't that so sweet and selfless? Well obviously Harry isn't going to settle for that, so............(wow, I never thought I'd be putting an Oliver Twist spoiler in my blog, but.......) SPOILER in the end, he gives all his political aspirations up so he can be with her!!!!!!!! :x :x :x So she accepts and it's all good!! :D :x END SPOILER

Still wondering what this has to do with Star Wars? The relationship between Rose and Harry reminded me very much of that of Anakin and Padme. Padme won't let Anakin give up his future for her. Now, she doesn't have a "stain on her name" (I just love saying that!), but the comparison still works. And of course Anakin will not rest until he gets her. He risks his "career" as a Jedi for her. :D

I just thought it was cool how even a book like Oliver Twist could have similarities to Star Wars!

We interrupt this blog to bring you a random moment! I'm soooooooooooooo excited about the Clone Wars series!!!!!!!! When I saw the video and read the article when I logged on, I danced around the room! (Glad I don't have a webcam!! :^O ) I rushed to go get a pen to circle August 15th on my calendar and practically ran into the door frame! :^O :^O Yeah, I'm that weird! And now back to your regularly scheduled blog.

EDIT: Take a look at what I just read about the Clone Wars at Comcast. 6th paragraph. Pathetic.

Good news: I've had a sudden burst of inspiration from different places in the past few days!! So I have 2 or 3 more blogs planned that I just have to write! Yay!

Well, I really hope you guys have a great Valentine's Day! I plan on pulling out the chick flicks and crying my eyes out! :D

Cool!

It's always nice when you can weave Star Wars into a school assignment :)

Don't you love Dickens' names? I mean, Mr. Grimwig. It's like you just take any randon random adjective and noun and put them together - as exemplified in his little known novel The Barker of Bunswick - which dealt with the characters Mr Dourdesk, Mrs Tightpimple and the lovable rogue Barnaby Moistpants.

Apologies for the extra word - randon, which isn't even a word. Although Dickens might have used it once.

Happy Valentine's Day to you! Enjoy your crying? ?:| ;)

Makes 'em a whole lot more enjoyable!!

He certainly said enough weird things.....

Never would have thought of that.
I was surprised myself!

Enjoy your crying?
Well I will because I'm crying over beautiful things! :x

Great comparison Jade. It is amazing to me how Star Wars can pop into my mind when I'm reading or watching other stories. I find myself always making comparisons or drawing parallels between "other" stories and our GFFA. I guess it has had a very dramatic effect on us SW fans!

Isn't it cool?! And I don't think it happens with any other movies I like - just Star Wars!

Interesting. I compared Antigone's characters to people in Sonic the Hedgehog and Star Wars for an assignment- and got an A!

I love the book of Oliver Twist! There is so many fascinating aspects of the book, actually...in all of Dickens' works. I actually loved the character of ###an. I don't know why, he just made me think a lot.

Nice job of relating it to Star Wars, I don't know if I could have done that! I can't wait to read your other entries too. I'm in a little bit of a rut, with no real inspiration for blogs coming my way in a while.

So...those random # signs...I definitely didn't put them there. I was talking about the character who is the adult leader of the children and teaches them to pickpocket. I guess this blog writing is really sensitive, which is good of course.

F-A-G-I-N (gotta do it like that to get past the auto-censor) was.....weird..... :D Kinda creepy, but still smart. I preferred Charley - he made me laugh a lot!! :^O

I guess this blog writing is really sensitive, which is good of course.
Since this is a family site, the auto-censor will get ya for all sorts of things. Yet for some reason it still allows the d-word and the a-word. Odd, in my opinion.

Doesn't anybody check these things any more?? I am shocked and appalled that professionals managed to screw this up. Just goes to show you that a) they don't care, or b) they're just plain stupid. X-(
