SW vs. LOTR vs. POTC - Part 2
Well, originally I wasn't planning on a second part to this blog, but a few of the comments addressed some important things, some of which were things that I hadn't been able to put into words the first time. Below are the names of the commenters, their comments, and my thoughts.

Captain Peabody and Green Am I both agreed that LOTR is deeper than Star Wars. For me, that would depend on how one defined "deeper." I think Star Wars has more layers to peel back and examine, in part because, as PrincessAngel39 commented, the story does not start and finish in itself. It continues to grow through hundreds of books, comics, and the like. More depth added to each character. In LOTR, you just have what you see in the movies, unless you go back and read J.R.R. Tolkien's other books. Still, there aren't enough of them to really delve into each character. Star Wars has a much larger scale.

However, if one defines "depth" in more of an intellectual, makes-you-think-about-stuff kind of way, I'd agree that, yes, LOTR is deeper. Star Wars is more fun. LOTR is more serious. Almost spiritual in some ways.

MasterMonkey13 said, "Really, who hasn't dreamed about being a pirate? And Jack embodies that dream." Exactly!! Like I said in my blog, the freedom of piracy is a huge draw, and very exciting. Most little boys running around nowadays want to be Jack, not Will. Why? Because Jack's a pirate who doesn't care about anything but his own desires. He does what he wants, says what he wants, and goes where he wants. He lives an exciting life. They don't want to be Will because he likes girls - :^O!! But seriously, Will is more responsible and caring and stuff. Plus the story showed Will growing and coming into his own. Jack was already there, already a man, minus the "grow up and be responsible" part. But I'm getting off track . . . . ;)

Cayleldar mentioned that I only talked about crying during the third movies of SW, LOTR, and POTC. I hadn't noticed that!! :D (Although for the record, I came near tears during Sam's "there's some good in this world" speech in TTT.) I guess it's because each of the third movies was the end. Yes, SW continues with 4, 5, and 6, but it was the end of SW movies being released. (Can't wait for August!! But that's another blog . . . .) The final breaking of the Fellowship in ROTK. A family brought together in times of testing and brought closer through grief and hardship. The parting of Will and Elizabeth. Two people who truly loved each other, torn apart for years at a time. (Although . . . .) I was saying goodbye to characters I had grown to know and love. I hate that. It feels like I'm losing my family. It may sound kind of silly and pathetic, but that's just the way I am, I guess (not silly and pathetic!! :p). I'm an only child, so I really like having different little "families" of people wherever I can find them - church, school, here, etc. I suppose that's why I reacted the way I did to these movies. :)

On an unrelated note, I have just finished Republic Commando: Hard Contact and looooooved it!!! I may or may not write a review - I haven't decided yet. However I will share a quick story and a quick thought.

The story: So I've been a little confused since I started reading this book. I'd heard the names Niner, Darman, Fi, and Atin before, but I was also sure I'd heard some other names: Boss, Sev, Scorch, and Fixer. I was utterly confused about why these names never came up in the book, until I started Triple Zero and saw the list of characters. :8} :^O Yep, I'm that blonde. So apparently they appear in Triple Zero! :^O Clears a whole lot up . . . .

The quick thought: I've been thinking about the Order 66 book and I started to wonder - what about Etain? Is Omega Squad going to be ordered to kill her?? (Btw, keep your comments Triple Zero- and True Colors-spoiler-free, for my sake!! Thanks! :) )

Thanks for dropping by, and MTFBWY!

P.S. Another stretch with the pic: all 3 sets of movies had ships. ;)
