Florida and Disney World! . . . But Mostly Star Tours!
I just came back from a trip to Florida! Sun! Yay! :D I had forgotten what it looked like, LOL. ;) Obviously, since it was our first trip to Florida and it's not likely we'll be going back for quite awhile, we HAD to visit Disney World, and I NEEDED a park-hopper pass so I could go on Star Tours (which is in Disney's Hollywood Studios and not in the Magic Kingdom . . . I swear they're just trying to suck as much money out of us as they can . . .)!!!! The trip was lovely, but, as my title suggests, this is mostly about Star Tours. ;)

I've been to the Disneyland Star Tours plenty of times, but not recently, so it was a fun experience to go again. As we waited in line, the Jedi Training Academy show began, which bugged me because I wanted to see it!!! I heard their little Jedi pledge thing and saw a few kids in robes, but my view was limited. Wouldn't that be the coolest job to have - dressing up as a Jedi all day and sharing your love of Star Wars with a bunch of little padawans?! I'd LOVE that. :D 'Course, I bet we could smoke the people they've hired with all our SW knowledge. ;) Unless they've hired people from the Rebel Legion or something?? Not sure. Anyway, I didn't get to see much of the show, because soon we were inside.

It was a MASSIVE line, which was sort of encouraging, and it also gave me time to study the people around me. The guy behind us seemed somewhat knowledgeable about the Saga and told his kid some stuff - :). However, the girls in front of us (not blondes, surprisingly ;)) were TOTALLY RETARDED!! They started talking about Star Trek stuff and asked their dad, "Who's that guy with the cool glasses?" Oh. My. Gosh. Please. Kill. Me. Now. :O I wanted to smack them but settled for mocking them quietly with my dad. ]:)

It was plenty of fun to see R2 and 3PO, but I have to say, I HATE that other stupid non-SW droid they have later on. I think he's an embarrassment, quite frankly. His dialogue is stupid, and for Pete's sake, it's not like there aren't other characters - even just droids - that they could replace him with. Some nice Jawas, perhaps. :D

The best part was the ride itself. There were all these little kids in front, and I loved hearing their reactions to everything! "Hey, there's R2!" "Whoa!" "Look out!" "Woo hoo!" "It's the Death Star!" "Yeah!" SO CUTE! :D They made it so much more enjoyable. :)

And of course there was the lovely gift shop experience afterwards, where I got a shirt, a lightsaber key chain, and a ROTS poster. The shirt is black and says "Star Wars" in shiny silver lettering. They key chain is blue, lights up, and flashes. I meant to get Anakin's, but accidentally grabbed one that said "Jedi Training Academy" on it. Oh well. :) They're all the same except for the color, anyway. The only thing I didn't like was that the children's Jedi robes cost $40!!!! I wanted to get 2 for my friend's little sisters (indoctrination!! :D), but NO WAY was I paying that much. I'd rather learn to sew or something. Maybe I'll just get them some toy lightsabers (although that's certain to go badly, lol ;)).

Just wanted to let you know. :) Feel free to share your Star Tours experiences and/or what you did for spring break. :)

P.S. Putting the final touches on two more blogs: the Republic Commando series review I promised (mostly True Colors), and another blog. They should be ready soon. :)

Oh yeah! And in the spirit of Vil's blog, some recognition for another blogger. :)

I loved Star Tours.
The best thing for me was being able to take my little nephew, Sean, who was visiting from England and who I was currently indoctrinating in all things Star Wars.
Afterwards, we got our photos taken in that groovy photo-composite thingy - and I got a round of applause from the watching crowd for my uncanny Obi-Wan impression:^O
Check it out!

Star Tours rules, as does the Star Tours gift shop. I got myself a nice Stormtrooper T-shirt last time I was at Disneyland. :)

I agree that silly robot was a little...silly... but he's not the only part of the ride that strains the part of the fan's brain that constantly sorts out the canonocity of everything.

One of my favorite parts of the ride, actually, is the pre-flight movie thing where you see the Mon Calamari and other aliens going into the seats and stowing their items beneath the seat, etc. Hehehe.

It's a looonnnngggg time since I went on Star Tours - about eight years...though you can forgive me as its not an everyday occurance when you live in the UK! I enjoyed it a great deal and have lots of photos of R2 and 3PO.

I've only been to Star Tours once, back in 1997 when the shop was still Endor Vendors and the theme was mostly "Return of the Jedi". I wish I could have spent more time in that area of the park, but my friend was rush-rush. I also wish I had more money for the gift shop.

It does seem like Disney is "trying to suck as much money out of us as they can". I felt that when I was there. In fact, most of the Disney park seemed ultra materialistic to me. I guess the worst taste in my mouth was when there was a parade for Hercules (they were promoting the film at the time, but it rubbed me the wrong way).

I went at Christamastime to the one at Disney Studios. My 5 year old nephew who has recently discovered SW (thanks to my encouragement on his 5th birthday) was in awe. We watched and tried to get him selected for Jedi Academy, but it did not happen. Honestly, I think he would have froze when Vader came out.

A couple of weeks ago, I went with to Disneyland. We did not have time to go on Star Tours, but did go to the shop. I did not find anything, but I did see multiple "younglings" throughout the day including one little boy that was so in character. :)

I think it is great that Star Tours and the Jedi Training Academy (which Disneyland has too) are creating new fans to the saga.

I was there during the 1st week in April! I didn't go on Star Tours because I get motion sickness, but I spent some quality time at Tatooine Trader. I got a Jedi Academy t-shirt.

Being there felt like a little piece of home away from home!

I also saw the younglings doing the Jedi Training Academy...it was a cute show! The guy who played Vader was good, but I can't imagine how hot he must have been...it was 84 degrees and he's stuffed in that black suit!

:^O :^O :^O You're right - that is so good, Nob!!!! Have you shown Granny yet? ;)

Yup. Just ask my dad - he had to listen to my rants! :^O ;)

It is cute! Plus, you have to love their attempt at SW hair with that blonde lady. ;)

Oh yeah, and the lady in charge of the ride was kind of . . . not smart. ;) She did this weird twisty salute thing when she said, "May the Force be with you." SO NOT Star Wars. At least last I checked.

though you can forgive me as its not an everyday occurance when you live in the UK!
True! ;)

I enjoyed it a great deal and have lots of photos of R2 and 3PO.
Unfortunately, my cell phone takes crummy pictures. ;)

You know, at the end of the day, I really enjoy the ride. It feels like you're actually in Star Wars for a brief period of time. MM13, you've got to go at least once! :D

I've only been to Star Tours once, back in 1997 when the shop was still Endor Vendors and the theme was mostly "Return of the Jedi".
It's still mainly focused on the OT. It would be really cool if they'd redo it with more PT stuff, or even have different ones where you could go to different places. Endor Vendors, eh? :D It has a different name in DW now which I can't remember, but it has something to do with Tatooine.

It does seem like Disney is "trying to suck as much money out of us as they can".
That's why the pirate medallion necklaces from POTC are $20. ;) It's quite annoying, if you ask me.

Indoctrination! Woo hoo! :D

Honestly, I think he would have froze when Vader came out.
I don't blame him!

Absolutely! :)

I know, that's gotta be torture! Although maybe the suit is super authentic and has air conditioning!:^O

Star Tours was pretty cool; I went on it at Disneyland though, not Disneyworld. It's been many, many years since then, and I was younger.

I'm almost afraid to go back to Disneyland after that... I mean, the magic just isn't the same when you're an adult... I don't want to ruin my memories. Everything there is so cool when you're a kid. I have this unbased fear of arriving there and having the "this is smaller than I remember" syndrome.

This was my first time at Disney World - we usually go to Disneyland because it's closer.

I can see that . . . . Maybe you could bring your kids someday and you'd experience the magic through them?

Wow! Sorry I'm late! What'd I miss?
anywho...
That's so cool, Jade! I remember when I rode Star Tours. (I thought It was at MGM, or is Hollywood Studios the same thing? I've only been there once.) We went the same day they had Star Wars Weekends so the entire park was packed with Star Wars fans, and it was only like, 2 weeks after ROTS came out so it was practically a mini-Celebration!
However, the girls in front of us (not blondes, surprisingly ) were TOTALLY RETARDED!! They started talking about Star Trek stuff and asked their dad, "Who's that guy with the cool glasses?" ARRRRGH! This is the reason I don't like girly-girls in a nutshell!

I got back two days ago and I loved it all! I went early in the morning one day and there was no line so I went on it 5 or 6 times!:^O By the link you left on my other blog I guess that you went to Universal Studios and watched FEAR FACTOR LIVE! That was cool. Since I live in Europe I found everything expensive but then I remembered that it was the same price if you halved it. I found LOADS of great deals over there! Did you go and see the car stunt show?
