Maybe the GFFA isn't as far away as we thought . . . .
When I went down to make my lunch this morning, I happened to glance at the newspaper on the table. Lo and behold, I saw a picture of Darth Vader! :O Even though I was behind schedule, I was curious, so I gave it a quick read, and packed it with my other things to read more thoroughly later on. I'd type up the article to share with you here, but then I'd need to cite the source, which would tell you where I live. Soooooo, just for you, I've found the website of the newspaper that originally (I think) reported the incident. Enjoy! I'll wait . . . .

So we've all heard of "Jedi churches" before, right? And I'm sure we all have our opinions. I, for one, agree that Star Wars can teach us many things, but at the same time, I think they're taking things a bit far. Oh well. I'm not trying to be rude to them or anything, but things like this tend to add to the opinion that Star Wars is evil and fans are . . . weird . . . crazy . . . obsessed . . . you pick. ;) And certainly, we don't want to give people more reasons to have this opinion.

But enough seriousness for today - debating opinions isn't going to change anything. In the end, I find this whole incident to be hilarious, although I'm sorry for those who got hurt, and I hope this guy gets help. But still . . . *giggle* . . . *snort* . . . *guffaw* . . . . :^O

Sorry, I can't help it! :D

Anyone else read about this?

MTFBWY,
Jade

P.S. Ummm, just in case, I'll add this. I don't want this blog to get into a heated religious debate, so let's all play nice, okay? It's fine if you want to share your opinion on Jediism as a religion (heck, I did, so it wouldn't be very fair to stop you!), but I don't want anyone knocking any other religions. Okay? Okay. :) Have fun!

Yeah, I saw some photos from this incident a while back.
Way to bring shame to the sith, drunken Vader - LOL.

And good luck to those folks in the jedi church (although I would prefer the word temple).
They take a lot of flak from other religious nutters, but at the end of the day one person's fantasy is just as valid as any other's.

Star Wars can teach us a lot...but as a religion? I think that's going too far.

Interesting incident nonetheless. (Are you impressed with my usage of big words?)

I'd love to go to a Jedi Temple, but they can't prove the existence of the Force any more than other religions can prove the existence of a god, so I'll continue to stay home and sleep in on Sunday mornings...

They take a lot of flak from other religious nutters, but at the end of the day one person's fantasy is just as valid as any other's.

Exactly my sentiments! If it makes them feel better, than why not? It's like any other church...

Glad you agree. :)

Indubitably! :D

they can't prove the existence of the Force any more than other religions can prove the existence of a god,
That's why it's about faith, Granny. :) Although I know of many instances that lead me to undoubtingly believe in God. However, you're right - no one will ever be able to prove His existence to anyone. They have to believe by faith and be drawn by the Father.

But let's not get into any heated religious debates, shall we? :)

I can't think where I saw them - could have sworn it was the official blog, but maybe it on the boards somewhere - sorry - however, I have dug up video of the attack for your entertainment.

That's the thing about faith... those who don't have it don't understand it , and those that do can't explain it.... live and let live, I say...

Hi,
I remember seeing that video at the time, although there is another vid I once saw of someone in a Jedi cloak being interviewed for a local news magazine show and someone leaps over a garden fence and attacks them.

BTW although I'm not a religious person myself in the 2001 UK census 390000 people stated that Jedi Knight was their chosen religion, 1 of whom was me:8}

Thanks Nob! That was weeeeeeiiiiiirrrrd!! :D Didn't look like much of an attack to me though. Maybe it happened while the guy was recording his feet or something......

Well, I'm not here to change your mind. :) We're both entitled to our opinions, right? ;)

:^O I read about that! I think a lot of people just put that for fun! ;)

Yeah - we definitely don't want them thinking we're weird. . . :) Although. . . I'd have to say that crazy and obssessed is just about all of us (or maybe that's just me) :D

I wrote a blog kind of based on this which you can read at your leisure here. :D

It depresses me that some people think that Star Wars is an EEEEVIIILLL saga. They're kinda missing the point. But to them, I guess anything that doesn't agree with their own ideology is EEEEVIIILLL. Only a Sith deals in absolutes!

But what if. . . what if we really DID get Vader drunk. . . imagine the possibilities. . .
Oh, goodness, NOOO! :O

Okay, I can see why people, myself included, admire the Jedi and thier wisdom and teachings; They've got a great philosophy! But as a religeon? As if the rest of the world didn't think of us as obsessed, Force-worshiping nutters enough as it is, this whole "Jedi religion" thing just gives them something to back thier accusations up with!
Extreme love is fine, and even obsession is alright as long as no one gets hurt as a result, but worship is taking things too far.
As for the people who think Star Wars is evil, they're on the opposite end of the fandom scale, but they're doing the exact same thing as these Jedi worshipers! They're taking everything a little too seriously.

The whole world just needs to lighten up.

:^O Oh my gosh, now that scene is forever ruined for me! :^O

CDS: Thank you!!!!!!!! I hate it that when a lot of people hear "Star Wars," they immediately think "evil" or "fanatics!" They make assumptions without even bothering to find out the truth! Grrrrrr!!!

Hey, while I'm here.....I saw Prince Caspian!!!! It wasn't very true to the book, but it was AWESOME nonetheless!!!!!! :D :D :D And he's SO HOT!!!! :x :x :x And oh my gosh, I just know you are going to cry at the end - I did!!!! But it was amazing - tell me what you think when you see it! :D

Haha, I enjoyed this. I remain a large skeptic but the whole article just filled me with amusement. Not over the religion really, but more over the incident. Imagine that happening to anyone? Not just at a Jedi Church, but any church or place or anywhere where a bunch of Star Wars fans are together. Amusing.

And I'm seeing Prince Caspian soon. I'm excited. I heard it doesn't stick close to the book either but I'm excited nevertheless.

It's still totally awesome! :D You just have to go into it expecting that it won't be perfect, and accept it. Or even pretend the book doesn't exist.

Yes, I finally decided to change it to my favorite character in the trilogy. It will now stay Oola forever. And ever. ;

No problem! Usually I don't have time to read the blogs during the week, so I spend the weekend catching up! Summer can't come soon enough.... ;)

And unfortunately, it's usually the crazy few that get the recognition, instead of the many fine, normal people. ;)

hope your enjoying your weekend

Oh, by the Force, you just destroyed such a dramatic scene...

Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly with Granny, and I believe that anything taken too far is dangerous.
