Ah, if only I could have caught a few zzz's like good ol' Faux-bi Wan there, but sadly, May 18 has been a rather long day for me.
I told my bosses at work at least a week ago now that I wouldn't be coming in today, for a number of reasons. The first was that I had to take an English final today, and they liked that excuse better than "I've gotta get ready for Episode III." Somehow, I don't think they'd have let me cut the day if I'd told 'em that one.
Anyhow, my final wasn't till about 1:30 p.m. which gave me plenty of time to study...
Yeah right, I studied for a final. That's a laugh.
(BTW, I'm being silly there. I studied last night, and I'd like to think that I'm a good enough English student, since I'm planning on majoring in it, to have gotten away with slacking in the few hours before the test...)
Anyway, I slept till about 9 a.m. which is something I haven't been able to do in a VERY long time. I loafed in my room for a while, catching up on the online ramblings of a few other sites I frequent, then got dressed and made my way out into the world.
A few blocks away, my comic shop opened and I made my way there first; the past few months I've become near obsessive with DC Comics and the upcoming
Infinite Crisis series (shameless plug--
Infinite Crisis blog, check it out), and I knew that today I'd finally be able to get my hands on the first issue of
The O.M.A.C. Crisis miniseries that I'd been waiting for.
So I get to the store, and whaddya know, the comics
just arrived. The guy who was opening the store, Ryan, was alone at the time, his boss (and the guy who usually opens the store), Gene, having to run to the hospital with his wife who was in labor. So, I volunteered to help out and get the comics up on the shelves for the public.
I'm such a nice guy, aren't I?
Now, I was doing this out of the goodness of my heart, truly I was, but Ryan (who I'd not really talked with before, and he's an awesome guy, fun to talk to for an hour or so) decided he'd reward my hour's labor by letting me grab my comics for free today. Score! I would've payed, really, but the gesture was very nice.
*makes mental note to help out the IRS guy some time...*
Anyway, I picked up my
OMAC issue, along with the new
Superman issue that tied-in to the
OMAC issue (good job, DC), and also the new
Teen Titans trade paperback, so all in all it was a good comic shop run.
So, I leave there, grab some lunch, and make it to school to take my final. After forty-five minutes, I'm done, and out the door so I can meet my dad to pick up our Fandango'd tickets for tonight (thank God for Fandango, my friends; buying your tickets online on April 18 is so much better than waiting in line with a bunch of fanboys...); now, I'm back at home, getting my room straightened up and ready for my well-orchestrated "Get Ready for Episode III Party" tonight. Watch the first two films then head to the theaters.
It's gonna be great, everyone. Can't wait till 12:01 a.m...
