I've always been a fan of the underdog, minor or the obscure characters of movies and books. The ones with small roles, big backgrounds, and an even bigger impact on the story. Often enough I get from friends and some on the boards (via my usual Watto avatar), "Why the heck is Watto your favorite character? He's hardly in it!" Besides from the fact that he's Star Wars' most unique character, I do have reasoning.
This is why I chose the junk yard dealer, Watto.
Watto had a small but major role in Star Wars. If Watto had never came to Tatooine, Gardulla the Hutt would have never placed a bet against Watto, and Watto would have never gotten the boy, and Qui-Gon-Jinn and Queen Amidala would have never found a T-14 Hyper drive generator and they would have been stuck there until the Sith lord, Darth Maul came, and would have probably found and killed all but the Queen and then force her to sign the treaty for the Trade Federation to take over the planet of Naboo. But at the Queen said "I will sign no treaty" then her people would continue to die, The Queen would have been frowned upon, their civilization would fall into ruin by the Federation's Lead, the Sith would have control of a whole Planet, their loverly elected Senator would let it happen, be appointed Ruler of Naboo, and would have found a different more painful plan of taking over the Galaxy.
Watto, as you can see was a very important character and you may also see why I like him so much. Like I said, I have always liked the minor characters in movies, the ones with big backgrounds but a short part in a movie that makes a big impact, well Watto did make a big impact.
Then again, his young slave boy became the most infamous Sith Lord in the Galaxy, but, hey, without him, what would Star Wars be?
Watto's freakin' awesome anyways.
