Things Better Left Unsaid
I'm sure you've all heard the news about the "Darth" naming contest for our bad boy, Jacen Solo. I've been quiet on the subject matter, until now. *Mina ducks while tomatoes get thrown at her*

Don't get me wrong, because I'm all for the contest. I think the idea of encouraging hyperspace members to participate in naming the next Sith Lord is a great idea. We get to be a part of Star Wars history. Woohoo. I even fulfilled my duty as a hyperspace member by pressing the shiny, pretty "vote" button for Jacen's Sithy name. Loverly, as I would say.

On the other hand, it sure spoils the whole plot for me, the reader, who is supposed to go out and buy the book. Why? Well, because it just is a kill-joy. It kills the drama, the suspense, the plot and the surprise of the story, at least for me. I'm sure there is more to the story than Jacen's Sith name. But, gorramit, I don't want to know ANYTHING until I read it. What happen to George's theory of keeping it all under lock and key until it's time to reveal it? Do I need to remind everybody that no one, and I mean NO ONE, knew that Vader was Luke's father until the ending of Empire Strikes Back? That's how it was, back in the old days, before the dark times, when it was a novelty to keep things quiet until the right moment. Do you think there might be some marketing consequences of releasing Jacen's Sith name, before it's time? Maybe or maybe not. Time and sales figures will only tell. What I do know is that some things are better left unsaid.

For me, it is a simple recipe (speaking of recipes, I need to catch up on Oboe-Wan's recipe blogs). Anyway, I want drama. I want suspense. I want to be surprised. I want to cry. I want to be upset. I want to laugh. I DON'T want to know ANYTHING about the story until I read it. I want to be happy (LUKE). I want some serious Jedi-kick-it-up-a-notch LUKE to bring down Jacen's Sithy-wanna-be little world. Is that asking too much? I mean, I don't want to sound like a spoiled, rotten Star Wars fangirl, but geez, Luke deserves to go out in a blaze of glory, kicking Jacen's butt. Ops, sorry, I'll stay on target...

I guess what I'm really trying to say is that as a hyperspace member, a customer, a collector and a Star Wars lover, I want the best of the Star Wars world...To be pleasantly surprised at the beginning, the middle and the end. And everything else in between.

I may not be the sharpest tool in the "Royal" shed, but I am a sharp consumer. ;)
