We crave knowledge and wisdom. We spend most of our lives seeking it. We make every effort to record it so that future generations may learn from it and use it. It's one of the unique characteristics that separate the human race from other species. The more knowledge and wisdom we gain the more confident, wise, creative, arrogant and, sometimes, manipulating we become. Knowledge is power.
Not all humans use their wisdom and knowledge for self perseverance and world domination. Most try to use their knowledge and wisdom for the better of mankind. But a few, such as the Star Wars character known as Palpatine, tend to use their knowledge and wisdom to manipulate the weak minded in order to gain pure domination and control over everything.
This was Palpatine's secret motive behind Order 66; a hidden agenda, so to speak, to gain full access and control over the
Jedi Archives and all the contents of the ancient texts, scrolls, scripts, artifacts and Holocrons of the Founding Jedi and Sith, evacuated from the planet Ossus during the Great Sith War.
I'm sure a lot of you probably think I'm stretching canon here, but the information I uncovered while researching the databanks tells a different story about Order 66. Follow me, gentle readers, on a journey in Star Wars history where knowledge and wisdom became a great ally to the Jedi and an enemy to the Sith.
Let's go back in time, shall we? Approximately in 4,997 BBY, a Jedi Knight known as Odan-Urr founded the center of Jedi Learning on the planet Ossus. Odan-Urr had recovered an ancient Sith Holocron from a Sith Warship during the Great Hyperspace War, which prompted him to create the Great Jedi Library. Under the watchful eye of the Jedi Masters that adorned its halls, the library continued to flourish and grow for over a millennium. The library was accessible to those who wanted to learn and grow in the Jedi ways. Its most prized artifact was the Sith Holocron.
However, in 4,000 BBY, Sith Lord Exar Kun seduced several young Jedi Knights to the Dark Side and than stormed the library, with them in tow, demanding the Sith Holocron from Odan-Urr. When Odan-Urr refused to turn over the Sith Holocon, Kun brutally killed him and seized the artifact.
Kun's forces later returned to Ossus and used an ancient Sith weapon that unleased a cataclysm which destroyed the surface of the planet. In a final act of revenge, the Sith stormed the planet for one final battle against the Jedi. Out of defiance the remaining Jedi Masters, fearing they were doomed, began to evacuate and scrambled to remove all records, texts, scrolls, scripts, artifacts and Holocrons that were stored within the library.
There is no information within the databanks that indicates what was taken and what was left behind during the evacuation of Ossus. What is recorded is that the ancient artifacts rescued from the Great Jedi Library by those Founding Jedi, now reside in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant in the tallest Central Spire known as the Temple Spire. The artifacts stored in this Spire contain the only known Sith Holocrons. Access to the repositories of dark knowledge and lore are only revealed to a few select Jedi Masters; Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda just to name a few.
Aw, yes, the plot thickens as it concerns the hidden agenda behind Order 66. All through ROTS, we are taunted and teased by Palpatine's knowledge and wisdom of the dark lore. Anakin yearns and whines to Palpatine for this dark lore knowledge throughout the movie. It's a bit over the top, but I digress...
Knowledge is power. Palpatine has both; knowledge AND power. Anakin wants both. The rule of two is now in motion and the quest to control all of the knowledge contained in the artifacts stored in the Jedi Archives is underway. Palpatine executes Order 66 with a secondary plan and secret motive in mind; protect the Jedi Archives.
Little is known about the Jedi Archives during the attack on the Jedi Temple. The databanks indicate that the Temple was destroyed and burned to the ground during the attack, including all artifacts of the Jedi and Sith. However, after the Battle of Endor, we see a restored Temple standing proud and tall within the back drop of the celebration on Coruscant.
Holocron legend has it that during the invasion of the Jedi Temple led by Sith Lord Darth Vader, a special clone trooper task force was deployed to protect the library and to defend several important artifacts containing information of all Jedi knowledge of the Sith. Palpatine has managed to gain full control and all access to the Jedi Archives. Knowledge is power.
Anakin still wants this knowledge and power and all the ancient artifacts that reside within the Jedi Archives. He fights to gain complete control of it for another twenty years.

In the end, it is his son Luke Skywalker that ends up in full control of all remaining history, information and knowledge about the Jedi Archives and its artifacts.
A millennia after the Battle of Yavin, Luke and his Apprentice, Kam Solusar, discover the Great Jedi Library on Ossus while on a mission. Most historical databanks indicate that all artifacts about the Jedi and Sith in the library on Ossus had been destroyed during the war. Luke and Kam are able to recover remaining ancient Jedi and Sith artifacts. Luke, with the help of Kam, rebuilds the New Jedi Order and painfully restores the Jedi Archives with the remaining artifacts recovered from their mission on Ossus. Befitting that all the ancient artifacts from the Jedi Archives end up in the hands of the hero of the Star Wars saga.
And there you have it gentle readers. My theory on Palpatine's hidden agenda behind Order 66. I hope you enjoyed my

Star Wars databank fact:
The stately architecture and vaulted ceilings of the Jedi Archives Room were inspired by a variety of real-world libraries, including the Vatican and those found in old English estates. A bare minimum of the set was constructed -- only Kenobi's immediate work area and several busts were constructed. The majority of the scenery -- the rows and rows of holobooks and high ceilings -- were realized as miniatures.
