George W. Bush vs. The English Language
I was in the bookstore the other day, casually looking through books, when I stumbled upon the "humor" section in the bookstore. I am always looking for a good joke or something funny to laugh at. While looking, I discovered a book called "Laugh Off" by Bob Fenster.

It is about comedy showdown between real life situations and what the "Pros" have to say about it. I came across a section where Fenster cites quotes from the President of the United States. My responses are in brackets. If you feel challenged with the English language, just read these quotes and your self-esteem will be restored:

On education: "The illiteracy level of our children are appalling."

[And you don't have a problem?]

More on education: "America is a literate country and a hopefuller country."

[What???...This just solidifies why I did not vote for you]

On the energy crisis: "We need an energy bill that encourages consumption."

[Spoken by a true Texan.]

On unemployment: "We want anybody who can find work to be able to find work."

[Well, this just makes me feel fuzzy, cozy warm that I be able to find work.]

On war: "you disarm or we will."

[OOOoooooohhhh, be afraid, be very afraid.]

On fighting terrorism: "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

[...No comment...]

On the Democrats: "They want the federal government controlling Social Security like it's some kind of federal program."

[pssssst...Hey George, Social Security has been a federal program for almost seventy years.]

On what he believes: "I know what I believe. I will continue to articulate what I believe and what I believe---I believe what I believe is right."

[...And the only thing I believe in right now is that you will be departing office some day very soon.]

These are actual quotes by the President of the United States. So don't get your feathers ruffled. Just enjoy the humor behind it all or add your comments to the mix. But be civil about it! ;)
