The need for more activities!
I'm the sponsor of our Star Wars club at my middle school. We do a lot of activities that the students really seem to enjoy, but I am looking for some new ones as well. It started out with a few kids knowing I liked Star Wars and we'd talk about Star Wars at different times. Those kids asked to start a club and our group was born. At first I only had the grade I taught and we meet once a week. Then the next year those that moved up a grade level wanted a club, in addition to what I had. It's been 10 years and now I have a group of 6th graders (about 30 each year) and another group of 7th and 8th graders (around 10 each year).

We talk about the books and the movies. We've done costume contests, played Star Wars games - just no DS, wii or xbox for example, that's just not a good idea at school. We have eaten Star Wars food, had trivia contests, drawn favorite characters and more. We're in the middle of the USA, so field trips to big cities, museums are not possible. I share with my kids about the activities we can do and we always vote on what they want to do. It is after all their group. I have a lot of fun too, the days we have Star Wars club are always the least stressful for me! As long as the kids are interested I'll keep this going!

Have you partipated in anything similar? What do your students enjoy?
