 | Should Old Acquaintance be Forgot.... |
Let me start off by saying that I'm not a party girl. I never have been, I never will be. I don't drink, I don't go clubbing, I don't go to bars (which kinda goes along with the no drinking thing) and in general I avoid large crowds of people. Gee, I sound like a good time, don't I? Well, I'm not above having a good time for your information. I enjoy being with my friends, my family. I enjoy doing things with them and sharing a laugh or making lasting memories of special times. I go to movies, museums, festivals, concerts (when I can afford them...), the zoo, the Renaissance Faire... see, good times. For none of those events do I feel the need to get plastered so I don't remember anything the next day... including the people I killed, or almost killed on my way home.
Don't EVER drink and drive.....
Ahem.... okay. So. New Year's Eve. The big tradition is to party and party hard. Since I do neither, New Year's doesn't mean much to me. It's just the turning of one year into the next from one day to another. Big deal. I've been through 39 of them now and the novelty wore off long ago. Most years, I'm in bed sound asleep at the turn of the year. Most years...
Last night, however, I decided to join my Spew sisters and some members of the PLB & GHG in an online New Year's Eve chat. We rang in the New Year in four time zones and we had the time of our lives. Some of had some "special" beverages... others of us drank soda. We had popcorn, cheese puffs... some of us watched Star Wars (my selection was ROTS) others watched Dick Clark ring in the year from Times Square. As varied as some of our celebratory observations were, the one thing we all had in common was the bond of friendship. Many miles separate most of us, but we could not think of anywhere we'd rather be than with each other on the internet in a Yahoo chatroom.
As each of us entered 2008 we "shouted" Happy New Year and blew cyber kisses and exchanged cyber hugs. The joy and affection we felt was real and it came from the heart. I had a big, goofy grin from ear to ear on my face all night. How did I get so lucky? From one little decision made a number of years ago... to join Hyperspace... to now counting people from all over the globe as some of my best friends. We came together for love of Star Wars, but now we come together for love of each other. What an incredible community we have here! I wonder if any other fandom experiences what we do here? To some extent, maybe... but I doubt it comes close to the family we have here. And we really are like family... we range in age from the teens up to some seniors, I'm sure. Some of us are motherly, some of us are like sisters, others of us are couples... we've got some big brothers in the mix, some younger cousins. I'm positive we have a crazy uncle somewhere.... I'll leave that to you guys to decide who that is....
We even have the family pets.... Joxer, Baxter, Obi-Wan Katnobi, Darth Furball, Sterling and Molly! (Any more pets? I'll add 'em!)
So now, I'd like to thank all those who made my New Year so very special... JediMelindaWolf, GalacticBabe (my Twink!), JediPrincess77, Gencrs, Sarlaac Pitt, Arwen Skywalker, M68 (Shelly Bean!), PadmeSkywalker77, EwanandHaydenFan5, Senator Soph-ia, Deej (albeit briefly... ![]:)](http://blogs.starwars.com/share/img/emoticons/devil.gif) we loved it all the same!), Mina, my Queen, Granny-Wan, JediLily, Hansgirl, and honorable mention goes to Megatrends, your friendly Neighborhood Psycho, for digging himself out the snow to make a special appearance.
You all hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for being my friends... I don't deserve any of you... but, everyday, I will thank God for you.
To all the rest of you..... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! May 2008 be the year all of your dreams come true!!

It was the best New Year's Eve I've ever had! Like you, I've never been a partier... although I used to drink some before a medical condition nixed that... I never liked getting drunk enough to be sick the next day... although I've done it... LOL
You're right, we ARE a family! But you forgot ShellyBean's new puppy, Baxter, and Hansgirl, Mina and I's cats... Everyone was there! LOL
Here's to more of the same in 2008!

Yeah that was fun, it would have been more fun if i had used that chat before and all the bugs worked out. Also if I did not have snow to clean up so I could have actually chatted more.

Well, you'll just have to get some practice time in.... at least you made it, that's the important thing.

I am a party girl (didn't used to be, but college "cured" me of that!) but I don't drink. I just like to hang out with lots of people and let the hilarity ensue, which it certainly did last night.
Seems like no one goes out anymore on New Year's Eve, especially those of us with younglings. But last night's spew was almost as good as being with each other IRL. Thanks to Granny and Mina for setting it up. Good times!
I don't deserve any of you.
Yes you do!

You all hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for being my friends...
I know what you mean, I feel the same way. Thank YOU!!!

((((HUGS))))
I echo Granny-Wan's sentiments here...this really was the BEST New Year's Eve I've had!! I like to party every now and then, but find that I would much rather just hang out with good friends...whether it be in person or in a chat room.
Last year, I spent New Year's Eve recovering from working the previous three nights ![]:)](http://blogs.starwars.com/share/img/emoticons/devil.gif) and sketching out the embroidery pattern for my Leia Bespin cloak...talk about fun I could have gone to a Rebel Legion event this year, but it was a good 3+ hour drive from me, and I have to work tonight....so not really feasible. So....I have no regrets about not being able to go to that

the bar scene.
I was awake at midnignt. I was watching Dick Clark in Time Square.
Hope 2008 is a good year for you

It was WAY cool to be able to pop in and see so many friends all together like that though! I bet it was just a killer night!

 My Twink!!
I had the most awesome time last night! I was thankful I didn't drink enough to have a hangover. And I never drink when I'm out. (nice soapbox, btw!)
(Any more pets? I'll add 'em!) Does a wayward 3-year-old covered in cheese dip count?
I said this last night and I'll say it again--Star Wars and my friends--best way in the world to ring in the New Year (X4)!! I wouldn't have been anywhere else!
Same time next year??

Here's to a great 2008 for us all!

Twas a fun time, my dear friend. And I wouldn't have wanted to bring in the New Year with anybody else but a bunch of fun loving Star Wars geeks.
Thanks for hanging in until the end...Boy, that last stretch was a tuff one.
I actually had a quiet plan of wanting to bring in the New Year with you guys. Mostly because New Years is the anniversary of my car accident by a driver that had 7 warrants out for his arrest. I was lucky to survive that crash and to tell the tale so that others don't drink and drive. Especially on that night. In short? My job was done holding that IM session with you guys.
Happy New Year, sweetie. Phew, I'm off to bed.

The big tradition is to party and party hard. Been there, done that, not doing it anymore. It's not fun.
That was such a fun time, especially since for the most part, I was one of ONLY 2 guys who were there. Makes participating in some of the topics a little weird.
I always enjoy those chat sessions. Makes getting to know people easier.
Boy, that last stretch was a tuff one. Well said Mina, I was falling asleep the last 30 minutes.
Happy Belated New Year everyone.

How wonderful! Like you, I do not "party" in the sense that many do, so having an outlet like the one y'all did on NYE is so cool! I was with family and IRL friends to ring in the New Year, but had I not, sharing with members of the Spew would have been by far my second best choice!
Happy New Year, Puglover!
