The Last Command - No wonder the EU is so big!
I have just finished Timothy Zahn's The Last Command, the final book in the Thrawn Trilogy. Wow! That is all I can say - wow!

Well, I guess I should say something more. Aside from the prequel novels (e.g. Cloak of Deception) this is my first foray into the Expanded Universe. It seems everyone raves about Zahn and I can definitely see why. I thoroughly enjoyed the first to books - Heir to the Empire and Dark Force Rising. But The Last Command was fantastic and by far the best.

Zahn's characters, such as Mara Jade, Talon Kardde, and Thrawn are so memorable that I can see why they seem to appear in so many other EU stories. There is so much to build from this solid foundation, its little wonder why the EU has grown so much over the past fifteen or so years since then!

I am about to tackle Jedi Search, the first in the Jedi Academy series. Fan reviews haven't been nearly as kind as the Thrawn triliogy. But, here's hoping it is at least decent!

I am definitely adding all the other Star Wars Zahn books to my reading list (plus some of his non-Star Wars stuff too, when I have the time!)

Jedi Search isn't bad, but it definitely isn't as good as Zahn's works.

I think I liked TLC the best out of the trilogy. I actually liked the Jedi Academy trilogy much more than the Thrawn trilogy, but then again, I didn't read Thrawn when it was first published. I guess I'm just not as big of a Zahn fan as many others.

I think you'll enjoy the JA. I really did!

Yeah, Last Command is my personal favorite as well, and only the second or third Star Wars book I'd ever read... it was only later that I went back and read the first two of the series. I can't really offer you advice about your further reading, since I haven't read any of the books you're referring too, but I hope you like them.

May The Force Be With You. :)
