Why Yoda Lost against Sidious...
I love Yoda, and that is why I'm sitting here making excuses for him. Well, maybe they're not excuses...

Theory I~ As Yoda taught Luke on Dagobah, the Force binds the universe together, and for Yoda, the Jedi were what binded him together. In the Great Jedi Purge, all of the Jedi were massacred during the execution of Order 66. Perhaps that when Yoda was dueling Sidious, the Jedi were not all there to bind the Light Side (Or the Ashla; Whatever you want to call it.) together, making it weaker. With the Force weaker now, Yoda could not access or use the Force as easily, making him weaker and more vulnerable. Perhaps if all of the Jedi were there, Yoda could have been victorious.

Theory II~ This one isn't quite a theory, because I read it on http://wookieepedia.com, which is always a valuable and reliable source. The site stated that Yoda got a slight but clouded glimpse of the future, telling him that he still had an important role in the Galaxy, and that he could still help defeat evil. I believe that this vision was referring to his part in the training of Luke Skywalker. He could not risk dying, because he felt weak from fighting so hard, and falling several hundered feet, so he deserted the battle, and escaped with Bail Organa.

Theory III~ I also read in some official Star Wars source, (I Forget What) that Yoda's spirits were broken from all of the Jedi deaths. This sort of ties in with theory I. If you consider this, how would you react if you had to fight a Sith Lord after almost everyone that you cared for was dead? Well, yes, you would probably run around in a crazy bloodlust, but Jedi aren't supposed to do this.

Feel free to comment. I appreciate your feedback.
May the Force be with you!
God Bless!
:D

It's actually a very important point, I think.

The thing about Theory 3 is that Yoda is wise enough to put emotions aside. He is affected and shocked, to be sure, especially at first, but in battle, he wouldn't be prone to being distracted at all, which is basically what this idea mounts to.

I like Theory 2, sort of. It would make sense to me if Yoda got a feeling that told him that fighting the Emperor right then was not the way to save the galaxy. It was a hard battle, and would only get harder. Yoda might have seen that there was too much risk, too much at stake, and that there was another path that would ultimately save the universe, even if he fled.

Theory II is what was expressed in the novel :)

I am like that theory best myself.

Yoda realized that the galaxy had changed and that the Jedi had not changed with it. They were stale and complacent. It was through his battle WITH Sidious that he only realized this and knew he could not win. At least at that point in time. Perhaps he did know something about Luke and the potential for the destruction of the Sith if he just waited it out.

Theory 2 sounds like the best one. Yoda thru the force knew he had to be around for the twins.

You should know a army of jedi is still not that good to defeat a dark lord of the sith as you know when master windu came with a group of four jedi plus him makes four he killed three jedi master in a few minutes even if you have a army is still not good yet you will just have yoda, mace windu and anakin because this is the only three who can defeat the dark lord and i am not sure theory 2 or 3 but both sound good to me. But i think is theory 2.

I agree with theorys II and III. I'm sure Yoda knew that he had to stick around to train the twins - I'm sure the Dark Side hadn't clouded his vision that much. And I like the idea that his spirits had been broken by the death of the Order. Although he is the most powerful Jedi (except for Ani, of course), that's a pretty big thing to deal with. Not many people could go and even fight Sidious in the first place, let alone nearly win.

Great Blog, Poltin!
