Thoughts on my Second Viewing of Episode III.
Ok, so I saw Revenge of the Sith for the second time yesterday, and I really liked it even more than the previous viewing. I did love it the first time (didn't you read my review? Sheesh. ;) ), but during this experience I was more able to take a deep breath and relax. The first time was so intense for me, what with the finality of it being the last Star Wars film, the hour line around the building which was not moving with ten minutes until show time (Luckily, the theater was aware of this, and did not start the film until everyone was seated with popcorn and soda. Pop? Coke? Whatever. ;) ), my fear of having to go to the bathroom during the movie, and just being excited. Nice, eh? :8}

Anyway, this is about the second time. I had my entire family and most of my closest friends with me, so I was living vicariously through them, as well as drinking in some of the details I may have missed. I paid particular attention to the Chancellor's discussion with Anakin at the opera house, because Time magazine and Entertainment Weekly mentioned that Palpatine may allude to the fact that he manipulated midi-chlorians to bring forth the birth of Anakin. I hate midi-chlorians, but at least they are better than an Immaculate conception. How could Lucas try to get away from religion, and then bring in an Immaculate conception? This is a topic for another blog, I will have to moderate myself! :^O

I absolutely loved the opening sequence this time. The first time, the silly droid voices temporarily plagued me (don't worry gang, I persevered), but this time, I was all about the action and drama. The soundtrack really stood out a lot of places, but especially in the first twenty minutes...possibly William's best work in any of the films (and that is REALLY saying something!).

I swooned during every action sequence, still cringed at the Boga's hi-pitched squeal, and sat in horror and awe at Anakin's tumultuous tumble towards the Dark Side. I am even more convinced that Yoda and Darth Sidious's battle is among the best in all of cinema, mostly because it was something I always wondered about as a child. I tried to pay more attention to the acting and dialogue, and besides the awkward and confusing balcony scene with Padme and Anakin ("I'm so in love with you." "No, I'm so in love with you." "Are you saying you can't see?" ?:| ) where something was lost in translation, or on the cutting room floor, I thought the results were magical.

I'm so glad Lucas brought us bask to that magical galaxy of long ago. I'm glad the Prequel trilogy ended with an emotional Ooh, instead of an embarrassing Aah, and I'm so glad that Star Wars has brought me so much joy. I'm guessing we will all enjoy our second viewing, and beyond...
