MDP Awards: Most Dispensable Character
I've been seeing lots of blogs asking which characters are the best, which are the worst, which have the worst lines, which are most underrated, which are the hottest, etc., etc., etc.
So i came up with my own character blog, being the original genius that i am. Which character do you think is the most dispensable? By this i do not mean which character you personally happen to hate the most. Which main or supporting character in the movies is the least necessary to the progression of the story? Be careful before saying Jar-Jar. He plays a fairly significant role in AOTC in granting Palpatine emergency powers, thus paving the way for the overthrow of the Republic.
Don't limit yourself to characters you personally wish were not in the movies. You could, for example, say Chewie. If you think about it, there's not many parts he plays that could not have been filled by another character already existing. This isn't about who adds the most to the movies. It's about who doesn't absolutely have to be there for the story to continue its flow.
And no obscure characters allowed, either.
I think the most dispensable character award should go to Count Dooku. His character was not necessary. TPM could just as easily have ended with Obi-Wan seriously injuring Maul, but with Maul escaping to resurface years later in AOTC. Grievous could have served as figurehead of the Separatists in his stead and Maul could have remained as the Sith apprentice. The story would continue to flow as before without the intervention of Dooku's rather short-lived character.
Besides, Maul was way cooler anyway. (Oops, almost breaking my no-bias rule. :8}
Okay--go insult me away! I don't mind! Just tell me what you all think.
