Star Wars Celebration IV
Rumors have been going around about a possible Celebration IV in 2007. I heard that Gencon might be back to host it again. Rumors of possible locations the past 6 months are Indianapolis, St. Louis, Dallas, Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas, Denver, Orlando, Las Vegas, San Diego, Anaheim, San Fransico, Los Angeles, and Oakland. I think most of the list is fan rumors and speculation right now. Gencon event director mentioned to me on the phone that gencon didn't have a contract with Lucasfilm for a star wars convention. If they did sign one then they would put it in their official website along with www.starwars.com. I checked the strong rumor going around about Los Angeles Convention Center hosting it May 23-27, 2007. I called them and they mentioned a Lucasfilm/Star Wars event-Gencon was listed has unconfirmed and unofficial. They did not act like it was totally 100% true so hopefully it is not since it shows favoritism to west coast star wars fans. Indiana Convention Center has enough space for a Celebration. It proved it by handling Celebration II and III. We just held the NCAA Men's Final Four in 2006 and NCAA Women's Final Four in 2005. We are hosting the 2010 Men's Final Four in 2010 and 2011 Women's Final Four in 2011. They could lease the RCA Dome next year with all of the Indiana Convention Center that could help organize the event better. The RCA Dome holds 55,000 people. Since no new Star Wars movie is coming out the Star Wars Celebrations in the future won't top Celebration III's total. It was utlimate star wars convention since everyone assumed it was the last one to concide with a new film. Indianapolis has good interstate system that branches like a spider web in most directions. It is less than 24 hour drive from major cities like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cinnacinti, Detriot, Chicago, St. Louis, Ney Yowk, Boston, Denver, etc. It has enough hotels for at least 30,000 hotel rooms with several next to the convention center. The Indianapolis International Airport is central and easy acessible. Steve Sansweet mentioned in 2003 that Celebrations are chosen with large convention center with hotels to accomodate the fans and is centrally located either by air or driving. Indy also host Indy 500, Brickyard 400, and U.S. Grand Prix every year with larger crowds than previous Celebrations. They are all good reason to keep Star Wars Celebration IV in Indy for 2007 if they have one in the future.

It would be really nice to see it be hosted in Dallas, I doubt that it would happen though. Dallas would be the only location at which I would be able to go.

I want Indy. More Indy! 14 hour drive from Smalltown Pennsylvania is quite a long time, but it's rather fun, since it's nonstop Star Wars talk on the ways home and back!

I think I'd have to tip my hat towards Indy again or St. Louis. Obviously, wherever it's at there are going to be some people that can't go. If it's not in some people's LIVING ROOM, they won't be able to go.

A central location makes it accessible to the widest area. People from either coast travel to the middle, rather than everyone tipping the continent to one side or the other.

Indy has showed it can handle it. St. Louis would be fund for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the iconic imagry. Come on, picture it. A group photo of the 501st, taken under the arch with either the old capital in the background, or against the Mighty Mississippi.

I'm in GA, BTW...didn't want anyone thinking I was playing favorites...

Well, at least it's been narrowed down. ;)

Personally, I'd go for LA. For one thing, there'd be no chance of waiting in the rain for anything. And for another... I live there!

legostarw,
The Star Wars Celebration was hinted by star wars.com twice since Jan. 1, 2006. They referred to it has anticipated Star Wars Celebration IV. The sources who keep saying L.A. Convention Center won't give me the name of person who said CIV in LA in May, 2006. Theforce.net has always tried to be first to guess when something star wars is releasing or coming out. I am taking the rumor with a grain of salt. I hope for Indy is hosting it 2007. It is more easy accessible to more people of the US. Yes, I do believe it can handle a Celebration. If it can handle Indy 500, Brickyard 400, U.S. grand Prix, and NCAA Men's and women's Final Fours then it would handle a star wars convention.

I am hoping for an announcement by the end of the month. I heard rumors from theforce.net it would be official announced by May 31. Theforce.net sometimes post false reports and speculation. I am hoping for Indy to be fair for the the majority of the fans. It isn't exactly central but it can handle a convention that size and easy acessible both by air and car. It would not favor one coast or another.

I'm all for Indy again since I can't afford to go out of state, let alone half way across the country. I feel sorry for those who would have to, though. It killed me, not being able to go to it, and me having to work down the street from it. I'd love to have that chance again.

Yeah it is stupid Lucasfilm picked a place like Los Angeles to host Celebration IV in may, 2007. I hope they do not make the same mistake for Celebration V if they have one for 25th anniversary of Return of the Jedi in 2008. Not to mention they are having a Celebration in London, England called Celebration Europe in the Summer 2007. Oh well! I tried my best to send has many suggestions to Steve Sansweet and Mary Franklin. Maybe we can still have a Star Wars convention in the next 2-3 years in central U.S. like Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, or St. Louis.
